Amazing Race: Leg 3
“There’s no more miiiiiiilk!”
That was my favorite phrase to come out of the third episode of The Amazing Race. Poor Lorena has some serious melt-down issues. The amazing thing is that Jason and Lorena somehow survived leaving the final challenge last to come in second to last at the finish line.
Before getting too deep, I wanted to apologize for this late recap and contest update. I didn’t get to see the entire episode until Thursday and hadn’t had a chance to really think about writing a blog on it.
Back to the race.
What a great couple of challenges I thought. The first one was milking the camels and it proved pretty tough for a lot of teams. It wasn’t until the end that they announced that you could find other camels to get more milk.
Thanks for the heads up. This was also the second challenge involving animals where the notes on the clue mention being “calm and quiet” with the creatures, so of course some teams freaked out, screamed and stomped around right off the bat when things didn’t go their way.
You ain’t getting any milk that way!
I also loved how Lorena kept getting the bowl kicked out of her hands, so somewhere along the way, the camel’s legs were TIED with rope so he couldn’t kick anymore. Seemed to me like she got some extra help.
Which is OKAY with me since they are one of my teams.
But not only did she get help there, but the team that got eliminated…Marianna and Julia, actually HELPED Lorena by telling her to find a camel that had a calf with it, since they had more milk. I knew it was a bad idea for the sisters to help this other team, but the tantrum Lorena was throwing would have made even the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers cave.
So with that tidbit, the panic left Lorena and she got all the milk she needed. They quickly caught up to the sisters for the final challenge. And ended up passing them to stay alive.
This challenge was cool. Either learn 10 words in the language of the country they were in, or teach some students 10 English words. My top team, Azaria and Hendekea, picked the best strategy by choosing to memorize 5 words each for the big test, which they sailed through. The other teams each memorized all 10, which slowed them down.
They crossed the finish line for this leg 1st overall, for the second time this season. They just seem a bit smarter and more ready than the others. So far.
The blonds from Los Angeles are hilarious by the way. They pretty much hated Africa, even going so far to say that the taxi driver was “going to sell them to people for money…”
Nice. Classy. It’s also amazing how these two went from looking like hot blondes to old and tired in two episodes.
We got a reprieve from the Goth couple, except that we learned Vyxsin wears the pants in the team.
Poor Ronald was suffering from a hernia, which may or may not have been played up for the camera earlier on during a run through the airport. He deserves it though after going berserk on his daughter in the last episode.
So here is how the contest looks after the 3rd leg. Only Jina lost a team.
Mike: Azaria/Hendekea, Rachel/TK, Lorena/Jason
Jina: Azaria/Hendekea, Rachel/TK, Marianna/Julia
Tracy: Ari/Staella, Rachel/TK, Jennifer/Nathan
Scott: TK/Rachel, Azaria/Hendekea
Nicky: Jennifer/Nathan, Azaria/Hendekea
Kat: Nathan/Jenny, Kynt/Vyxsin
