DVD Picks for 11/13/07

Here’s another installment of my weekly DVD picks based off the new releases this week.

The very first one of course is the amazing Paris je t’aime. I saw the film earlier this summer and thought it was so well done that it was worth recommending. It’s definitely an Indie film and contains around 18 short films all combined into one. They all relate to the one overall theme: Love.

It’s definitely worth checking out if you get into this stuff. The list of actors goes on and on and on…

Some of the top ones:

  • Steve Buscemi
  • Juliette Binoche
  • Natalie Portman
  • Elijah Wood
  • Miranda Richardson
  • Bob Hoskins
  • Gerard Depardieu
  • Maggie Gyllenhaal
  • Nick Nolte

There are some top named directors as well: Wes Craven, Gus Van Sant and more. Definitely a must-rent if you are into the indie-foreign film scene.

Oceans 13

This was definitely a fun movie and a 100 times better than Oceans 12. Whereas 12 wanted to be funny and ended up being a big joke to the actors about how awesome they all were to be in one film, 13 gets back to why the original was so great: A good plot, a good plan and good writing.

The big heist in this one is just fantastic and on a large scale.

Gilmore Girls, the the final season seven and the complete series.

If you didn’t watch this series, you missed out on some of the best and most overlooked writing on TV. From great emotional-filled dialog to witty, smart and hilarious pop-culture references, this series was so much more than just a “chick show.”

The final season definitely wasn’t up to par with the first six, mainly because the head writer Amy Sherman-Palladino wasn’t doing the writing anymore, but it’s worth the wait to see the last episode. You truly feel the series ends as it should and there is nothing else you need.

A fitting ending to a wonderful show.

Prison Break, Season 1 on Blu-Ray and HD-DVD

If you haven’t seen the first season of this show and have a Blu-Ray player, then you may as well rent this while all your other shows are on hiatus coming up soon.

The first season was definitely the best…from the massive tattooed map on Michael’s body to the romance between him and Sara. All good and all worth watching.

Miscellaneous

Melrose Place Season 3, the complete series of Miami Vice, the complete Northern Exposure, Close Encounters of the Third Kind: 30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition on Blu-Ray or regular DVD, Pride and Predjudice (2005) on HD-DVD
