"Sorry Mike, I got my big 'one month since we said I love you' celebration. Sammy's getting some hammy tonight." - Sam,       Burn Notice

My HDTV is already an antique

Okay, maybe not EXACTLY an antique, but news out of the world of Sony products today kind of makes me sad.

According to a rumor that EngadgetHD has pretty much confirmed now, Sony is discontinuing the production of all rear-projection televisions. They may not even make attempts to fill backorders.

Engadget even created this little graphic below to make the news sting a bit more:

Sony RIP rear projection TV

I have a Sony GrandWega 42-inch rear projection LCD HDTV that I absolutely love and have loved for awhile now. It’s never had a problem, the bulb is still going strong and I see no reason to replace it.

But Sony isn’t making them anymore, and is the last of the big manufacturers to do so. It was funny the other day I thought that I am seeing less and less of these kinds of TVs around at Best Buy and other electronic stores, and now the news arrives.

Why does it hurt? Well, when you pay $1800 for a TV only to have its kind completely outdated in less than three years, it makes you wonder.

More than likely Blu-Ray will win the war coming up here soon, ruin my new HD-DVD player and then I’ll have an open house for all of you guys to check out the electronics museum I seem to be creating over here.
