“Star Trek XI” Trailer To Debut With “Cloverfield”

Star Trek XI
As if we didn’t already have enough reasons to go see “Cloverfield” on January 18 we now have one more.  MTV Movies Blog has confirmed that the teaser trailer for “Star Trek XI” will be attached to the January 18 release of “Cloverfield.”

“Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has told MTV News that Paramount has picked his monster flick as the venue to unveil the “Trek trailer. There isn’t much more to report on that front, but Reeves did say that he’s seen the teaser and that it’s “awesome.

If you’ve read my blog for any length of time at all you know that I’m looking forward to both of these films so you can imagine how glad I am to hear this news.  This may be the film that actually gets me to the theater on opening night again (something I haven’t done in a couple of years now but used to do every week).

In case you’ve been living under a rock, you should know that most of the plot details for “Star Trek” are still being kept under wraps, but it is understood that the movie takes place during the early days of the Enterprise crew.

The newest rumors say the film will focus much more on Spock than on the crew of the Enterprise.  According to some reports the adventure takes place on a USS Enterprise commanded by Captain Christopher Pike, with Pike and crew being helped out by Kirk but not until much later in the film.  In this scenario it’s unknown what ship Kirk would be serving on, but he is not yet a captain.

The film is set to open on December 25, 2008.

Here is the latest updated cast list:
