CBS Greenlights More “Survivor”

Jeff Probst is the host of SurvivorI’ve made no apologies for being a huge “Survivor” fan since the very beginning of the show on CBS so I’m very happy to announce that Variety is reporting that CBS and Mark Burnett have inked a deal to keep “Survivor” on the network through at least the spring of 2009.

The new deal insures the show will go on for at least two more seasons (it’s 17th and 18th).  Furthermore, the man who is the one constant on the show (and the best host on TV in my opinion), Jeff Probst, has struck a deal to return as host for both seasons.

While “Survivor” has suffered some ratings erosion in recent years, the series’ most recent edition (”Survivor: China“) still won its Thursday time period in viewers and all key demos, despite fierce competition.  It averaged 15.2 million viewers and earned a 5.1/14 among adults 18-49.  Not bad for a show in it’s 15th installment.

The 16th edition of the show, “Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites, featuring a battle between fans of the show and some of its past stars, premieres February 7.

Casting has already begun for the 17th season of “Survivor.”
