David Letterman’s first guest in 2008: Robin Williams

Ah, good old David Letterman. He’s my favorite late night guy on right now and he finally returns with new episodes tonight. His company, World Wide Pants, made a direct agreement with the Writer’s Guild of America that gives them their own writers back.

Update: If you are interested in Letterman’s strike beard, check out the photo of it in this blog)

Because of this agreement and the lack of one for the other guys, like Jay Leno or Conan, Letterman owns them because of the guests he can get now.

A-list actors and actresses cannot appear on the other shows because of the WGA strike, which would be considered “crossing the picket line.”

Not Letterman though. No one coming on his show is crossing any picket line. So he hold all the cards this time around and it’s likely his ratings will blow everyone out of the water.

And to prove a point it seems, his first guest will be the powerhouse Robin Williams.

I’m not a HUGE fan of Williams, especially because his last few movies haven’t been great, but he once made better choices and thus I’ll always enjoy what he can do.

Pairing Letterman and Williams together after all this strike talk should hopefully end up being a classic episode.

The rest of the week on Letterman looks like this:

Thursday, January 3
Bill Maher (Real Time with Bill Maher)
Ellen Page (Juno)
Broadway’s “Young Frankenstein”

Friday, January 4
Donald Trump
Shooter Jennings (CD, “The Wolf”)

  1. Leno has Mike Huckabee on tonight, who supposedly is a pro-labor type candidate. Interesting!

Also, I heard on the Today show this morning that not only can Jay not have writers but also isn’t supposedly to pre-write anything himself. It is all supposed to be ad-libbed. Doubt that will actually happen. Hear crickets anyone?

  2. Haven’t watched any of these late night hosts in years. But I might watch tonight because I love Robin Williams. Yeah, his movie choices have left something to be desired as of late, but he is still absolutely hilarious.

  3. Jina - I just read your post - that might be more interesting to watch than Letterman! I guess I will DVR one and watch the other! :)

  4. Don’t know if you watched it - but Robin Williams was pretty funny last night. That’s one hyper little man.
