Elijah Wood breaks some amazing ‘Hobbit’ news
I haven’t heard news this good since it was confirmed that Peter Jackson was signed on to produce The Hobbit movies. Obviously having him attached to the films makes their potential that much better, but that’s now old news compared to what Elijah Wood told MTV in an interview posted on their site Friday.
So all along everyone has just assumed that when Jackson and company talked about The Hobbit movies, they would take the original story by J.R.R. Tolkien and break it into two parts, much like the three Lord of the Rings films which are clearly three separate books.
The Hobbit has a way blurrier line when it comes to that and many were curious how it would be split up.
Now, none of that matters. According to Elijah Wood, the first movie will be the entire story of The Hobbit, while the next movie will take place during the 60 years between that book and the events in Lord of the Rings.
Holy crap.
Okay, calm down, because I know you are just as excited as I am and probably just hurt yourself falling out of that chair you were glued to.
Here is the official quote by Wood:
“I haven’t spoken to him directly about it [but] I’ve e-mailed him, and as far as I know the two films that they’re doing, one will be ‘The Hobbit’ and another will take place between the 60 years that happened between ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’.”
He does say “as far as I know” but come on, if anyone knows, it’s freaking Frodo Baggins!
From what I’m reading, there isn’t much written about Frodo between the two books other than hints at adventures with Bilbo Baggins and his parents deaths.
Wood doesn’t want something “made up” that would include him in the movie, but if it was something that made sense, he’d “LOVE” to be a part of it:
“If I’m asked to go back and revisit that character and it makes sense, I would love to. I would absolutely love to, he said.
He also talked about the fact that he didn’t think Peter Jackson or Fran Walsh would try to write some made up story just to get him back in the movies.
So what do you think of this news? I have to say, I’m stoked. There are SO MANY little side stories and elements between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings that it could be awesome.
The other side of this is that not only does it open it up for that, but I could seriously see more of Tolkien’s stuff being put on the big screen.
Can anyone say The Silmarillion?
Alright, that book was so epic I don’t know how they’d make it into a movie, but if they built some kind of trilogy based on it like the History of Middle Earth, I’d go berserk. I would have to think there are enough fans out there to make the movies worth it.
Anyways, that could be too much to hope for or even ask, but what do you think of at least these two Hobbit movies?
I cannot wait to find out more about this.
