Guillermo del Toro to direct ‘The Hobbit’ films
I’ve been following news about The Hobbit films closely ever since it was confirmed that Peter Jackson was going to be attached to the project. To me it wouldn’t be the same without Jackson’s vision helping it along.
This time around though, he’ll be producing the films, not directing, but that’s okay with me considering who they’ve gotten to helm the two prequels.
Guillermo del Toro is in talks to direct the back-to-back films, set for releases in 2010 and 2011. He’s responsible for the great Pan’s Labyrinth, but also such movies like Hellboy and Blade 2.
Pan’s Labyrinth won three Oscars among countless awards from other film festivals and award shows. I actually liked Hellboy and was sort of surprised that it actually had a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Not too shabby.
Del Toro obviously has a great grasp on the fantasy genre so pairing him up with The Hobbit films seems like the right choice.
Jason Clark wrote more about this over at Inner88, as we continue to fight the good fight in out-doing each other for content, so head over there for more about it.
