Marlon Wayans and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Join “G.I. Joe” Cast

Marlon Wayans joines G.I. Joe castVariety is reporting that Marlon Wayans has signed on to “G.I. Joe” to play Ripcord who will be a leader of his own military unit (and he’ll be black, I’m guessing…the original was white if I’m not mistaken). Marlon is the younger, kind of goofy Wayan brother that was in “Scary Movie” and “White Chicks.”

Also in talks (but not officially signed yet) is Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Most people will remember him from the television show, “3rd Rock from the Sun,” but he has actually been working pretty hard building up an impressive indy acting reputation that includes “Brick” and “The Lookout.” There’s no word yet on what character he might be playing.

The two will be joining a growing cast that already includes Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Sienna Miller (The Baroness), Rachel Nichols (Shana ‘Scarlett’ O’Hara), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Heavy Duty), Saïd Taghmaoui (Breaker), and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow).

The war-themed story is based on the popular Hasbro comic books, cartoons, and toys and is set 10 years in the future. Stuart Beattie wrote the screenplay, while Paul Lovett & David Elliot and Skip Woods contributed earlier drafts.

The Stephen Sommers directed film is set to start shooting next month in Los Angeles.

Paramount has already claimed the weeked of Aug. 7, 2009 for release.
