“Strange Wilderness” Poster and Trailer (with Steve Zahn, Justin Long, and Jonah Hill)

Steve Zahn.  I just can’t get enough of him.  Oh wait.  Yes, I can.  I’m not sure what it is about Steve Zahn, but for some reason I always feel like he’s been in a lot more movies than he really has been.  It’s not that I don’t like him.  I think he can be pretty decent.  I liked him in “Rescue Dawn.”  It’s just that it seems like he’s everywhere…always.  I know it’s not true, but…

Anyway, I haven’t heard much at all about “Strange Wilderness” (official site).  Heck, I didn’t even know it was coming out until I started looking at upcoming releases and realized that I hadn’t written a single thing about this movie.  I liked Justin Long in the last Die Hard movie so that has to count for something.

But did anyone else think Ernest Borgnine was already dead?

Strange Wilderness Poster
The poster doesn’t tell us a lot but it does give us one very important clue as to what we can expect from this movie - it’s from Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions.  If you like Adam Sandler type of movies then this is probably your type of thing.  If not, then it’s probably not.So the plot is that Peter Gaulke (Steve Zahn) and his sidekick Fred Wolf (Allen Covert) host an ailing wildlife TV show called “Strange Wilderness” (ailing because they stink at their job from the looks of it).  Their ratings are tanking so they launch a desperate scheme to save the show by finding the one wildlife animal that could really turn things around - Bigfoot.

“Strange Wilderness” Trailer

After watching the trailer I must admit I was actually laughing.  There were several really funny lines.  The movie does have that early Adam Sandler type of feel to it (early as in before he got serious and his stuff stopped being funny).  It’s also got Jonah Hill in it, which I didn’t realize before paying closer attention to the trailer and poster.  He was pretty funny in “Superbad.”  Overall, I think there might be some hope for this film.  Could be a nice change of pace from some of the Oscar stuff we’ve been seeing.”Strange Wilderness” is set to open February 1, 2008.
