Viggo Mortensen And Charlize Theron On “The Road”

The Road by Cormac McCarthyCharlize Theron has signed on to join Viggo Mortensen in the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’sThe Road,” a Pulitzer-winning apocalyptic novel by the author of “No Country For Old Men.”

I haven’t yet had a chance to read it, but Oprah’s a fan (it was an Oprah’s Book Club selection) as it pretty much everyone else from what I’ve seen.

The Road” will star mostly Mortensen as the story revolves primarily around a father guiding his young son across a scorched Earth populated by roaming packs of cannibals, the remnants of a wiped out human civilization. Unless the screenplay differs vastly from the book it seems that Theron’s role will be subjugated mostly to short flashbacks.

John Hilcoat who directed “The Proposition” will be directing. Guy Pearce is also in talks to appear in the film.
