200 people freeze at Grand Central Station

Thanks to the Cap’n for sending me this little tidbit yesterday afternoon.

The people over at Improv Everywhere are friggin’ entertaining and are all the buzz on the internet right now.

In the video above, 200 Improv Everywhere agents walk into Grand Central Station and completely FROZE all at the same time.

The scene is one of amazement and awe and it must have been especially cool to see it live. I think enough people have seen too many horror films, plus live in worlds of their own, that this event might have freaked a few out.

They do a remarkably fine job at staying frozen for quite awhile, and the murmurs and discussions that pop-up by nearby travelers is pretty fun.

This Frozen Grand Central Station video has slammed their servers. Check out this graph from their blog stats since the 31st of January:

Improv Everywhere

They’ve been going nuts trying to keep up with everything, although it looks as though it might be calming down. That’s what happens when you get on YouTube, Digg and other social bookmarking websites.

A few weeks ago they also caused more waves with their No Pants 2k8 event where 2,000 agents across the world in 10 cities all walked into subways without pants on. They had over 900 agents in New York alone and saw a ton of media coverage on the event.

Check it out:

They’ve been around since 2001 and have run around 70 total missions.

Looking forward to what they do next.

Man, that’s awesome. Why didn’t we think of that?

Like you said, it must have been quite a spectacle to see it live. Video doesn’t do it justice.
