Casey Affleck, recently Oscar nominated actor for his work on “The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford,” has taken the lead role in the period noir drama “The Kind One” based on a recently published novel (just published on January 22, in fact) by Tom Epperson
.
According to Variety, “The Kind One” the story is set in 1930’s Los Angeles and centers on an amnesiac (Affleck) who finds himself working for a mobster — a sadistic killer given the nickname “the Kind One” — and falling in love with the thug’s girlfriend.
I’m already excited about seeing this movie. Not only did Casey come into his own as an actor this year, but in this movie he’ll be playing a sadistic killer (as opposed to just a regular killer) who is called The Kind One. Now we all know the sense of irony that mobsters possess so if they call you the kind one they are really saying that you are so very far from being the kind one that you probably wouldn’t even tell your mother to have a nice day. Plus, he’s a sadistic killer who falls in love with a fellow thug’s girlfriend. Is his fellow thug friend also a sadistic killer? Will he be so afraid of The Kind One that he just sits back and lets the girl go or will he and the Casey go head-to-head over her? I’m intrigued.
There is no word yet on a director for the project. Tom Epperson will adapt his own novel once the strike is officially over.
