Jason A Clark and Mike Olbinski Join Forces To Form PopCritics.com

Announcing Pop Critics!

It was announced today that Jason A Clark (right in photo), author of the entertainment blog, Inner88, and Mike Olbinski (left in photo), author of the entertainment blog, A Mike Life, have joined forces to form Pop Critics (http://www.PopCritics.com).

Pop Critics was founded by the two aspiring writers after a chance online meeting grew into a friendship forged by friendly competition on the website BloggingZoom.com, a Digg like site designed to help bloggers promote their material.

What Is Pop Critics?

Pop Critics will be an entertainment hub, a central location, where readers can go for the latest in pop culture and entertainment news and notes. Capitalizing on the popular features of each of their individual sites, Mike and Jason will offer their opinions, musings, and general feelings on news in the world of television, movies, books, music, and whatever else in the world of pop culture that tickles their fancies.

“For a while we were actually competing with one another, trying to beat each other to the biggest breaking stories or the hottest movie trailers. But at some point we realized that we kept writing the same stuff – from almost the same perspective,â€Â? said Mike Olbinski of A Mike Life. “It just dawned on us at some point that it made a lot more sense to team up and offer our readers twice as much quality and twice as much content with half as much work for us.â€Â?

Jason A Clark of Inner88 adds that “our blogs were just so close in nature, so parallel in subject matter, so cosmically aligned to the same topics and opinions, that one day we just felt like things would be a heck of a lot easier if we teamed up…you know, like Batman and Robin, or Laverne and Shirley.â€Â?

The two aspiring internet entrepreneurs have big plans for the future of Pop Critics. Although the immediate future will be filled with merging content from their individual sites into the new site and creating new content, the dynamic duo eventually hope to bring in guest bloggers and possibly expand into other subjects.

“I don’t think you’ll ever see Pop Critics doing recaps for Rock Of Love or a movie review for The Hottie or the Nottie unless we’re making fun of it,â€Â? says Mike. Jason interrupts to add, “What we do want is to bring our readers quality reporting on things they SHOULD be paying attention to today because they are the things the world will be paying attention to tomorrow.â€Â?

What About Inner88 and A Mike Life?

In the meantime, Inner88 and A Mike Life will stay active although most of the content relating to Pop Culture will now be posted on Pop Critics. Most of the older relevant content on both sites will be redirected to Pop Critics.

How Do I Subscribe To Pop Critics?

If you are a RSS subscriber to either Inner88 or A Mike Life, please consider subscribing to the Pop Critics RSS feed so you will continue to get the quality content you have come to depend on. You can subscribe via RSS by clicking here or by visiting the site and clicking the RSS icon anywhere you see it. Email subscriptions are also available at the site.

  1. Congratulations, guys!

R.A. Porter’s last blog post..Friday Night Sketch War: Round Three

  2. Congrats guys! I actually thought this may be what Mike was talking about in his post “Something cool this way comes.” Which is funny, because I was way too dense to pick up on the whole Aaron is Kate’s son thing before it was finally revealed on Lost :-)

Great idea. Best of luck and I will be sure to subscribe to all three sites now!

    Steven’s last blog post..Site Update

  3. Well this blows… how are we ever gonna determine who got which story up first and had the best trailer/poster movie review post?!?!?

  4. Makes perfect sense! Congrats. Does this mean all posts will be on popcritics.com from this point on? Not that I mind having 3 subscriptions to the same information ;) just curious.

  5. Congrats - you guys are now the blog equivalent of Chuck & Larry.

    The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..Choosing My?Jesus?

  6. @ Steven - Hilarious!

@ Adam - All posts here…the other two sites will become either more of personal sites or just random things not related to Pop Culture I guess.

Thanks everyone, it’s going to be a lot of fun I think and Jason and I are excited about moving forward.

  7. Chuck and Larry? Hmmm… Bill and Ted perhaps…

Thanks for the support guys! We really appreciate it.

Just to clear it up, all the stuff that we feel is appropriate for Pop Critics will be posted only at Pop Critics. Our other sites will probably see a lot less posts.

I’m not sure what Mike’s plans are, but I will probably not post anything to Inner88 until the first of March and then it will be more along the lines of some of the little funny things I find or personal observations, opinions, politics, that sort of thing.

We’d certainly appreciate your continued support of our personal sites, but if you only read us for entertainment and pop culture news then Pop Critics is where you want to be.

  8. What he said :)

  9. Or she said…

Here’s the news of the day… Two BloggingZoom superstars have joined forces to create a pop culture super site.

Jason A Clark and Mike Olbinski are definitely already well known on BZ and I’m VERY excited to see this project grow. They are obviousl…

  15. What! I knew nothing about this! The wife is always the last to know. And to think I was just about to make a run at winning the monthly comment contest. Way to kill a girl’s game!

  16. Say, that reminds me…I should probably mention this to my wife…

  17. Congrats on the merger and the, uh, apparent mutual attraction. LOL I think you will do well together.

  18. I just hope they do not lose their edge since they are now not competing with each other. It is easy to get lazy when you have no one to beat.

  19. Good point Brackets, but I think what you’ll get out of this is even more info and better posts, since we wont be duplicating stuff anymore…

  20. I didn’t see this one coming guys! Congrats on the new site and best of luck to you and your new project!

  22. Congratulations on this glorious union, and the birth of your new, virtual baby!

  23. Thanks Lord Likely. It has Mike’s gift for gab, but my critical and judgmental eyes… Isn’t it beautiful?

  24. Congrats guys…

That’s right. A shaky cam video of the X-Files 2 teaser. It’ll probably be pulled down soon though.

    Thanks for the congrats!

  26. Geez, Mike. Do you ever sleep?

  28. Would you expect anything less from Mike and Jason?

  29. No - I was testing my new gravatar and blog/site - I wanted to make sure it would work with comments here. :)

  30. Stoopid gravatar …. it doesnt like the Capn =(

  31. Don’t hate…

The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..Hey Jude Baby

  32. Our site will take them from MyBlogLog and Gravatar. I’ve never had any problem with it.

  33. Gravatar is smarter than the Capn then… Ape and I for the longest time couldnt get it to match and work. Ape recently had some vitamin enriched bananas and got his to work. I still can not figure out why mine does not show when it shows on current reader….(over to the right)
I was instructed to ensure they are all same font format etc. they are all lower case, it all matches, no gravatar =(
    Poor Capn…

  34. @ Cap’n - you’re just all thumbs…

The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..Who Is Jesus?

  35. But are they opposable thumbs?

That’s so weird that it won’t work. Sick Mike on it.

  36. So, which one of you is Laverne and which one is Shirley?
I look forward to seeing your joit work!

  37. @ Jason - I did that comment when I got up on Monday for my flight to California…

Although that time seems wrong, it was an hour later than that….weird.

  38. I would be one of them if I did it. I like the way Jason A Clark is writing his websites and blogs. It is so exciting to hear about him.

  39. Seem I am a bit late for this news…I was surprised when I open a post on jasonaclark and directing to popcritics. Anyway, Congrats for the new blog. Success for both of you guys!

  40. Better late than never Liv! Welcome to the party :)
