Screen capture clearly shows identity of Jacob
*spoilers as always…stop here if you don’t want to know cool stuff!*
Thank God for the internet and all of its users who take things off of TV and enhance them for those of us unwilling or unable to do so.
Granted, I am still in the camp of not being entirely sure that just because Jacob appears to be Christian Shepard, that it truly means that’s who it is.
However, it seems like a lot of people have thought it was Jack’s father for quite awhile now. Check this one out:
Posted in May of 2007 by some dude on a forum:
Okay, so yeah, it certainly looks like him. The thing that makes me happy is that I originally thought that the dude in the picture above didn’t look like Christian at all, more like John Locke, but obviously it really does.
Why does it make me happy? Because it means the Lost writers aren’t pulling crap out of their butts. They have a plan! (to quote BSG).
So now to the big picture from last night’s episode:
Now…I have two issues with this.
1. It seems impossible to me and too much of a “suspension of belief” to think this is Jack’s dad. I mean, hasn’t Ben been listening to Jacob for awhile now? Long before Christian died in Sydney and long before the survivors come to the Island? Haven’t we seen other people show up on the Island as well that are dead, like Eko’s brother?
2. I think the mystery surrounding Jacob seems at bit too HUGE to be suddenly revealed to us at the start of season 4, when we have two more to go.
But obviously and clearly it’s Jack’s father we see in the screen capture above.
What do you think? Is it really him? Are you frakking blown away???

My theory is that Jacob, who is essentially a spirit/energy being, needed a body to inhabit and Christian Shepard’s body wasn’t being used and was in relatively good condition.

I totally missed who it was,so this is the first time thinking about who it was in the shack.
I’m thinking time travel here. They went out of their way during the one hour recap to show a couple characters on the beach receiving a radio transmission. One said it could be from anywhere, and another(Hurley I think) said “or any time. Just kidding, man.” This could have been a big clue right there.

I just don’t know about time travel as much as time being weird on the Island.
We all know Ben’s friend, whatever his name is, could be like over 100 years old or something…
I’m *really* liking Frank’s theory.

I agree with the body snatchers idea. Or maybe Christian did something to Jacob and is holding him captive or something. I don’t know!

What about the other 200 bodies he could have used? Why Christian’s? What makes him more special than any of the others???
Perhaps there’s something ’special’ or ‘good’ about Christian Shepard’s body. Remember that Claire and Jack are half-brother/sister. There’s a lot going on there.
Now here’s a boggler. Could Christian Shepard be one of the Oceanic 6. Why? Because Jack mentions him as being alive and well in the season ender. This means he returned with them, perhaps being animated by Jacob, or we’re looking at an alternative timeline where he didn’t die in Sydney.
This means the Oceanic 6 includes the following characters:
1. Jack
2. Kate
3. Hurley
4. Christian Shepard(?)
5. Person in Coffin(?)
6. ???????

Yes, but Jack was really drunk/high on pain killers, so maybe he forgot his dad was dead. But, the Chief didn’t say anything like “uh dude, your dad is dead”. Soooo who knows, all I can say is I’m so glad it’s back on!
Christian has to be one of the O 6’s.
Who’s the person in the coffin? I think it’s Sawyer. No one showed up to the funeral…
I am thinking that Jin and Sun are part of the Oceanic 6….so that leaves one space. Maybe Christian?
Damn I hope not…it’s going to just mess with everything.
Somehow I think if Christian comes back alive, he’s not going to go to some hospital and work again…that would just change your life too much to fall back into the same world you came from.
I’m with Frank on this theory.
1. We have never found Christian’s body - we still have an empty coffin
2. We know that Jacob is either something otherworldly or is in possession of supernatural abilities or properties.
3. It seems that healing of certain characters on the island has been extremely quick through out the entire series.
4. It seems that a case can be made for a few resurrected characters on the island. Perhaps, in the vernacular of Princess Bride, the were only “mostly dead”, but not all the way?
As far as the Oceanic 6 - I’m still scratching my head. The obvious ones are 1. Jack, 2. Hurley, and 3. Kate.
Let’s also not forget Walt and Michael (that would be 4 and 5 if we included them).
So that would leave the coffin - but Jack was the only person to show for the funeral. He was neither family nor friend and apparently the remaining four were not friends with that person either…So whomever it was might have been someone that they were not friends with on the island, or someone that they became unfriendly towards after the rescue (because it seems that Jack has strained relationships with both Hurley and Kate).
I would almost guess Juliette, but she would want to go back to Miami to be with her sister. I cannot imagine it being either Locke or Ben. Could it be James? Or, to add another twist to it, maybe it was Hurley.
I have a theory about the coffin, at least…something to ponder about it. Going to post it later this week…
Wow! Didn’t Christian make earlier trips to Australia, hence Claire? If so, isn’t it within the realm of possibility (like anything is impossible with LOST) that he somehow became involved with the island and has been for quite a while?
As for the 6…no clue. It could be any of them I guess.
And the coffin…wasn’t it small? Like a kid or small person? That would rule out Hurley & Sawyer, right? Maybe its somebody we haven’t met yet. Whoever it is, Kate clearly had no reason to go to the funeral.
It seems to me the theme developing here is that the O6 made it back in exchange for something else (”I’m tired of lying”, “He’ll wonder where I am”, Jack to Hurley about keeping his mouth shut, etc). Maybe its in exchange for letting the other survivors live? The guy that came to visit Hurley did ask him if they were still alive, right?

Actually Frank makes a good arguement hre that I could follow, however Tim E could be right about time travel as well, cause in later episodes whatever physist does the rocket experiment and shows there is a time travel lag difference of when the rocket is suppossed to hit vs when it actually arrives…. so I dunno about this. I never cuaght it was Jacks dad until seeing this stop frame shot.

In typical lost fashion, the answers give us more questions! I haven’t ruled out time travel as an explanation for this mystery, since Desmond did it and all so it’s been established in the show as do-able. Who the frak knows???
