Us Magazine is reporting that Britney Spears will be appearing as a guest star on the March 24th episode of How I Met Your Mother on CBS.
The troubled 26-year-old pop star will play Abby, a receptionist at a dermatologist’s office who falls for architect Ted (Josh Radnor) when he comes in to have a tattoo removed. The role will be Spears’ first return to the small screen since a 2006 cameo on Will & Grace.
Apparently it was representatives of Spears who first approached the show about doing a guest spot because “she was looking for a small part on a funny show.” Mother apparently fit the bill.
The writers were only given a short time to rework a character they had already been rewriting. Spears attended a table reading with the cast on Monday and her scenes will likely be shot this week.
How I Met Your Mother returns next Monday with all-new episodes following the writers strike.

Yes, lovely, isn’t it? Now we can all watch CBS pimp the crap out of the train wreck that is Ms. Spears during the NCAA Tournament. And all we had to give up was Alicia Silverstone, who clearly has enough good sense and taste to avoid getting caught in the wake.

Nice picture, and you have GOT to be kidding me…why would any self-respecting show allow this to happen?
You like that picture, Mike…
All about the ratings…
Well, ratings AND alienating your existing fan base who’ve been pushing your show on anyone and everyone for two and a half years. What do we say now? Oh wait, I know…
They used to be cool. I like their earlier, good seasons. They sold out. What? They’re still on the air? Well, you didn’t get to see them in the beginning.

LOL - Good point. I’ve been a fan of the show since day one as well. But I think I’ll wait and see what they do before passing judgment. I think Britney can probably pull off funny in a very limited role. And the people on the show are really funny so you never know. I’m willing to forgive them an occasional corporate sell-out as long as they keep making me laugh.
This isn’t just a corporate sell-out…it’s BRITNEY…the girl can’t even take care of her kids, why are people paying her to be on TV?
Just makes no sense to me…
I always kind of wanted to try this show, but never did. And now I certainly won’t.

Scotty, I can’t recommend the first two seasons enough. Seriously. Go rent them, or find a friend who’s got them and give them a shot. This may very well be its last gasp (CBS hasn’t given them a pickup order for next season) so I understand why they might be trying anything in desperation. It’s very sad, but understandable.

I’ve heard great things about the first two seasons, so I definitely want to rent them sometime.
You guys haven’t seen this show? Really? Wow. I just assumed people watched it because there’s nothing else on anyway. It’s really funny, though. The Slap Bet, the Slapsgiving episode. Funny stuff.
It gets pretty good ratings, though. I don’t think CBS is going to cancel it. They might cancel The New Adventures of Old Christine (which would be a shame because it too is really, really funny), but not this show.
