Charlton Heston dead at 84

I’m sure by now everyone has heard about Charlton Heston dying this past weekend at the age of 84. He had been battling Alzheimer’s, which is a horrible disease as we all probably know. My grandfather died not too long ago of the same illness, and it’s just an awful way to end your life.

Thinking about a guy like Heston degrading with this disease is just unfathomable. The tough-guy he was, the persona he put out there, it’s hard to believe that he may have reached a state where he couldn’t kick someone’s butt.

I was looking over his list of film credits this morning and realized that I really haven’t see many of his movies. I’ve watched the big ones of course, like Planet of the Apes and Ben Hur, but likely have missed out on some other great films by this legendary man.

My favorite Heston movie of course is Ten Commandments. I don’t know what it was, but my brother and I must have watched it about 10 times growing up. We were fascinated by it.

I also remember his guest appearance on Friends, when he tells Joey to “put your clothes on so I can kick your butt.” Loved that.

Anyways, rest in peace Charlton Heston, may you hunt “damn, dirty apes” for eternity…

  1. Yeah I can hear Mr. Heston now if Ape comments here… “Get your hands off me you damn dirty Ape!!!” He also had the first I am Legend movie with the Omega Man, and how could you forget Soylent Green….RIP Chuck, we’ll miss ya!

  2. Amazing actor back in the day, but turned into a gun-toting nut job in the 90s. It’s a shame that Alzheimer’s got a hold of him in the 2000s. And an even bigger shame was his (edited) appearance in Bowling for Columbine.

  3. Yeah, I enjoyed a lot of his work, especially Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green (which I recently saw for the first time). Favorite had to be The Ten Commandments which I watched several times as a kid.
