Shia LeBeouf had a huge year in 2007, with Transformers and Disturbia, plus voiceover work in Surf’s Up!
Now he’s going to star with Harrison Ford in the next Indiana Jones movie, which has to be a boon to this guy’s career.
Well, it’s all deserved in my opinion, because something about LeBeouf is appealing. He was a great choice to be the main guy in Transformers, and I have a feeling in Indiana Jones, he’ll provide some plucky comic relief to Ford. Of course, Ford as Jones is pretty hilarious already.
But in Disturbia, LeBeouf makes the movie worth sitting through. It’s nothing really original. Shia plays Kale, a son who loses his father to a horrific car accident a year prior (and the accident is pretty thrilling I must say), and hasn’t had an easy time with it.
When the movie starts, we find him socking his Spanish teacher, thus landing him under house arrest.
It’s basically a Rear Window remake if you will, as Kale does nothing but spy on his neighbors since he can’t go anywhere else. First a hot girl moves in next door and occupies most of his attention, but there is also a strange neighbor who may or may not be a serial killing lunatic.
One part I really enjoyed was the way Kale prods his yard to find the limit of his ankle bracelet’s range, and then ties ropes everywhere so he knows how far he can go.
All of this just to meet his neighbor.
But LeBeouf makes it fun and more than just a simple thriller. It’s worth a rental.

I agree, sort of a ‘re-imagining’ of Rear Window. Fun movie, def worth renting or catching on HBO.

“Re-imagining” is the new buzzword these days
This could’ve easily been just another ho-hum, disposable, teen horror flick, but there are enough smart tweaks in the formula and good acting that it’s elevated far beyond that. Good stuff!
In fact, after seeing this, I was kinda blown away by how mediocre LaBeouf was in “Transformers.” But I’m chalking that up to crappy script and direction.
I’m chomping at the bit to see Indy 4!!
If I imagine this twice does that mean I re-imagined it?
i thought “misremembered” was the new buzzword??? i really need to get caught up with “what’s hot” in the English dictionary.
Either that or I need to start watching BSG? Maybe both…
OMG, don’t joke about that Kory…if you are going to watch it, THEN GO WATCH IT!
By the way, are you watching Arrested Development?
This movie has been out for quite a while Mo, I’m surprised you just got around to this… it was pretty decent and surprising…
Yes, we are watching AD. It flippin’ rocks! Once again, the Olbinski’s come through with another solid suggestion.
I just watched “Disterbia” from my Netflix list and I really enjoyed it, but I love any Hitchcock type story. Shia was delightful and I will be glad to see how he does in the new Indiana Jones movie. I really liked him in “Transformers” as well.
