If you have Blu-Ray and Netflix, be prepared to pay a bit extra.
According to EngadgetHD, the CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, said on a conference call yesterday that they are planning on “instituting a modest monthly premium” on top of your normal fees if you rent Blu-Ray.
EngadgetHD says it DOES make sense, because these discs cost a bit more than a normal disc, but I mean honestly: How many more people does it take to rent that Blu-Ray disc to make up the different? 2? 3?
I dunno, but to me that seems like a charge just to charge people for something they should be getting anyways.
Regardless, if you are with Netflix, be on the lookout.

You knew it was coming, pass on irrelvent costs to the consumer.
Netflix is going to charge extra for Bluray, Blockbuster raises rates for everyone every other month. It’s all just paving the way for PPV.

Yeah PPV that you have to watch within 24 hours or it gets deleted (if you record it)… maybe we all stop watching movies and go outside…. nah, no chance!
A modest increase is fine by me as long as it means them improving their inventory. If it’s raised a dollar or more and people still have to wait really long times for Blu-ray discs, I’ll probably seek some other method of getting them.

Yeah they were going to create their own movie and release it, The Day the Blu-ray Rental Prices Stood Still… but had to scrap it due to the price increases…
Let’s hope the price premium for Blu-ray doesn’t last. Thanks for the great article!
