Number 5 is unfortunately back alive

Ugh. Another in the long list of unnecessary remakes.

Dimension Films just acquired the remake rights to the original Short Circuit film about a robot named Number 5, who was made just for the military, but develops a personality and consciousness after being struck by a lightning bolt.

The two guys behind the creation and writing of the original, S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, will actually be BACK to write the remake version as well.

There were two Short Circuit films, and they were essentially sci-fi comedies. The only way I see this new version working is if they do an entirely NEW imagining of the story, perhaps make it dark and I Robot like, instead of trying to duplicate the campyness of the original.

Thoughts? Are you just groaning like I am?

  1. Well, if they can’t get Steve Gutenberg or Fisher Stevens back, they can’t get this butt in a seat, either. One must have standards.

  2. Number 5? What happened to the first 4? Its kinda like Preparation H… what ever happened to Preparation A-G?!?!, which is probably what you would need with you to ’sit’ through this remake…

  3. Groan…just terrible.

  10. ooooh Kory good idea for a premise… maybe this #5 will be amped up on HGH….HA! Get it!! amped?!? ah nevermind…

  11. I’m thinking this could have crossover potential with other movies. If we change it to a horror flick where Johnny really does “short circuit” and begins killing people, we could then cross it over with the new Friday the 13th and Nightmare On Elm Street Films for the ultimate showdown…
