Anchorman sequel in the works?

I know a few of you out there are psycho fanatics about Anchorman and even consider it your favorite movie of all-time. Some of us just think it was friggin’ hilarious. Others didn’t like it or get it, much like my feelings on The 40-Year Old Virgin.

Who cares about all that. We’re getting a sequel. To Anchorman.

According to The Movie Blog, via Moviehole (who’s site is totally down as of this writing thanks to not paying your bills I guess), Anchorman director/writer Adam McKay and Will Farrell are all excited about filming a sequel to the hit original.

McKay tells Collider that Will Ferrell will be putting on the 70s duds again sometime in the next couple of years. “I’m looking to do another movie, I might do this other movie called Channel 3 Billion which is kind of this science fiction/Brazil type comedy. Then after that, Will and I are like let’s do Anchorman 2…so you’re talking like 2 years maybe we’ll do it. But we’re going to do it, for sure.â€Â?

McKays it’s a sure-thing, unless of course Paul Rudd and Fred Willard balk at the idea. “We’re dying to do it. Unless we can’t get the cast together, which is always kind of a tricky thing. But, I think, with that cast we’re all friends, so yeah, we want to do it.â€Â?

Of course, you need Steve Carell as well I would think. But regardless, what do you think of the idea of a sequel for this movie?

I really hate it when good movies end up with horrible “Part 2’s.” A Whole Nine Yards comes to mind. I don’t even acknowledge a sequel exists. In fact, I’m not sure why I’m even writing about that, there WAS no A Whole Ten Yards.

But these kinds of classic comedies…I just can’t see a sequel doing the original justice.

What about you guys?

  1. I’m one who falls into the bucket the first one blew chunks. Not even remotely funny (excluding when he thought baxter was calling him on the phone)… I cant even imagine a sequel to this….or even why.

It’s one of my favorites too although I’m not sure how well a sequel would do either.

  7. I have to admit I didn’t think the first one was that funny when I first saw it but thinking back on it and reading quotes from the movie later made me laugh pretty hard. Not sure about a sequel, though.

  8. I loved Anchorman and am cautiously optimistic that they could pull off a sequel. They definitely need Steve Carell to make this work.
