Catherine Keener Gets Crazy On Juno In “An American Crime” - Trailer and Poster

I don’t know what I’m supposed to think about An American Crime.  On one hand, June, er…Ellen Page is being bent over a chair to get “punished” which seems…um…”interesting”…  On the other hand, I think she’s playing like a twelve year old and Catherine Keener is actually beating her and locking her in the basement…which is considerably less…”interesting.”  Looks kind of strange, but could be good I suppose.

The plot synopsis reads:

“This,â€Â? said Prosecutor Leroy New, “has been the most terrible crime ever committed in the state of Indiana;â€Â? the first crime of child abuse that broke through reticence and denial to register with the public.  In Tommy O’Haver’s heartbreaking and hard-hitting film, AN AMERICAN CRIME, Academy Award nominee Catherine Keener portrays Gertrude Baniszewski, the seemingly ordinary housewife who imprisons and tortures a beautiful teenager, played by Gemini Award winner Ellen Page, in the basement of her house – two portrayals that will resonate with audiences long after they leave the theatre.  AN AMERICAN CRIME, which also stars James Franco and Bradley Whitford, was produced by First Look Studios and Killer Films/John Wells.

From what I understand, this movie is on Showtime.

  1. The performances in that trailer were riveting. That they drew me in with so little time on screen is a good sign for this movie.
