Jan de Bont To Direct “Point Break” Sequel

I remember a time when Jan de Bont was going to be our next great action director.  He had a string of a couple of hits there that included Speed followed by Twister.  Both of those movies were huge and put him on the map as a name director.  Then he made Speed 2: Cruise Control.  He’s only directed three films since.

I’m not sure if Point Break: Indo is going to be his ticket back into the arms of Hollywood.  This sequel to Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 hit, Point Break, which starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze could end up heading straight to the DVD racks before it’s all over.

We don’t know a lot about the sequel except that it will take place 20 years after the disappearance of one of the criminal surfers (Patrick Swayze) from the original.  Both the original and sequel are written by W. Peter Iliff.  The trade papers say plot details and possible character reprises have not been disclosed, but the film will shoot in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Good luck, Jan de Bont.  You’re going to need it.

  4. Whoa…

  5. Straight to video/DVD.  The only returning characters will be those other 3 surfer guys, even though they all got killed.  Nobody else needs the money that badly.
