It’s being reported that Marvel is kicking around the idea of Brad Pitt as Thor in the already announced movie of the comic book hero. The studio already has a script by Mark Petrosevich which is currently being trimmed down for budgetary reasons, but so far they don’t have a director or any actors attached.
They haven’t yet made an offer to Pitt, but the word is that Marvel wants someone who can act so they’re ruling out a lot of the John Cenas, Chris Jerichos and Tyler Manes of the world.
I personally think that Pitt’s character in Troy probably gave them the idea that he could play Thor. However, I don’t personally know a lot about the character from the comic books so I’m not sure if Pitt fits the bill or not. He is a pretty good actor and he does buff up pretty well so he has that going for him.
What do you guys think? Could Pitt pull it off?

Wow.. serious? Thats interesting.. Pitt can act for Sure, was beefy in Troy, but as he Beefy enough…I dunno…Thor is supposed to be big as the wrestler types that cant act….will be interesting to see how this progresses for sure… I’m not sure I can see Pitt attached to a superhero for 2-3 movies and possible Avengers.. I dont think he would be that committed..
All I know about Thor is that the little girl in Adventures in Babysitting was obsessed with him. Seriously, if you haven’t seen the chick-flick classic Adventures in Babysitting, head to Blockbuster right now. Jina Tidbit of the Day #2.
I think the commitment thing for Pitt would definitely be a problem. However, after seeing the box office numbers for Iron Man, you never know. Plus, it’s looking more like they might do one Thor movie and then an Avengers movie (or two). I could maybe see him signing up for three movies over 7 or 8 years for that kind of money.
@ Jina - Awesome tidbit
Pitt looks good for this role, but I also have no idea what kind of character Thor is…so can he pull off that side of things?
Nerd time…Thor is the God of Thunder who wields the mighty Mjolnir (his hammer), son of Odin who has a fondness for humanity and betrays his fathers wishes to aid humans, and joins the Avengers…
Pitt’s a good actor and in good shape, but my concept of Thor is much larger than him — I thought the guy from the TV movie 10ish (?) years ago was a good fit. Pitt’s a little too “average human” sized.
Depends on what version of Thor you are talking about, the original or the re-made. The original was a spindly guy with a cane I believe but when he picked up the hammer, whammo he was Thor. The Ultimates version he is already a big environmentalist dude who is delusional (thats as far as I got in the series).
Thats the rub, Pitt a good actor could be the small nebbish guy but Thor is like huge, not buff. Pitt just seems like a lazy choice, like Jessica Alba as Sue Richards. I think Marvel was right on with Downey and Horton, and DC got the right guy with Bale. The problem is most huge guys are ham actors like Triple H. Once more on Matt Damon’s jock I think he would make a good Hawkeye, if not Captain America, and why is he losing to John McClain?
DadofIanIs last blog post..There is a God.
Well in the Ultimates they think he is delusional until he summons an Army of solidiers from Asgard, then they believe he is a God…
Cap’n, can you start all of your comments like the one above… “Nerd time…”? That would be helpful.
Kinda like AnaDVR?
At this point, does he really need to spell it out for us, Jina?
What are you trying to say Jason.. dont be shy just come out with it
Thank you Cap’n for taking me back to my Nordic Mythology class from college. As for Pitt as Thor..uh…no…as others have said Thor would need to be much bigger.
Scotty Dubs last blog post..Add more hours to your day
Pitt would be a horrible choice for Thor, IMHO.
Are my ears burning? Is someone talking about me?
