Marvel Studios announces four more release dates

That didn’t take too long. Iron Man was Marvel Studio’s first production film and it didn’t seem to surprise them on how well it opened. They released a first quarter report for their shareholders this morning, which included the estimated $100.7 million that Iron Man made over the weekend PLUS an updated schedule of their upcoming comic-book-to-movie extravaganza.

From ComingSoon.net, we get the following slate of films with new release dates:

  • Iron Man 2 - April 30th, 2010
  • Thor (by Matthew Vaughn) - June 4th, 2010
  • The First Avenger: Captain America (working title) - May 6th, 2011
  • The Avengers - July 2011
  • Ant-Man (Edgar Wright) - In development

Wow.

I’m no comic book expert yet, and some of you guys can clear it up for me, but I do know that Iron Man is connected to The Avengers and Captain America of course. So you have to WONDER if all these characters will be involved in a lot of their future films.

The way I can see it happening, which would just be sick:

Iron Man 2 introduces Nick Fury and The Avengers, but maybe not Captain America? Or maybe he has a small part? Then we see his full story in The First Avenger, followed up by EVERYONE in The Avengers.

Will Robert Downey Jr. be around for that final film? Samuel L. Jackson?

What do you guys think? Are you comic book lovers excited to see all of this on the big screen? I have to think a major origins film involving Captain America would be awesome.

  1. Wow. I am really interested to see what they do with Thor. And will they update Captain America from the beginning like they did with Iron Man or will they have him fighting Nazis? Can’t wait!

  2. LOL, I’m headed to Steven’s blog to read his crazy titled latest post…

  3. I’m with you Mike - I can’t believe somebody didn’t like it - crazy.

  4. Ant-Man? Really?

  5. I didn’t say I didn’t like it.

  6. Yeah, Steven liked it, he just didn’t “enjoy” it because of idiots around him.

  7. I read months ago that Nick Fury was going to have a brief cameo in Hulk, too. Samuel L. is going to be a busy man, soon.

@Steven, I’d guess they do the normal origin story with Cap. Fights the Nazis, gets iced for N-decades, is thawed when America needs him most.

I’m curious if they’re going to try using the Avengers movie to launch Ant-Man, or if they’ll manage to get Hank Pym onto the big screen prior to the massive team up. Either way, Marvel’s putting a lot of money and risk into this. A few of these characters just don’t get people’s hearts racing. Ant-Man and Thor had better be really good movies (like Iron Man) to make up for being weak characters.

  8. Am I the only one a little sick of Samuel L. Jackson? It just seems like he’s doing the same roles over and over again.

  9. @Mike, no. It’s not just you. The problem is, Ultimate Nick Fury was drawn looking like SamL. Not casting him would be crazy since Marvel obviously decided to go the Ultimates route at least with him.

  10. I’m just tired of him being the same guy in all these different roles. We just saw him in Jumper, and the scene at the end of Iron Man may as well been that guy with blond hair.

He’s like a bad actor who can only act one way playing hundreds of different roles.

This is making me think of some funny reference, but I just can’t place my finger on it…

  11. @Mike -are you seriously bagging on Sam L? Bad actor? Whoa there big fella. ;-)

  12. I didn’t say he was a bad actor, I’m just saying…it’s the same role in different costumes :)

  13. I am thinking the avengers and captain america will follow the storyline in the Ultimates.

  14. “I’m no comic book expert yet, and some of you guys can clear it up for me…” why you must be talkin to the Cap’n!! woo hoo I have a purpose…{Gets his geek on}… Well since ya asked lemme tell ya…

The Avengers overall, like any super team (Justice League),rotate team members (especially now with the aftermath of Civl War. But the first Hero was Captain America (you just gotta luv the Cap!!)
If you havent seen Ironman yet and dont want to know the end poiler everyone keeps talking about after the movie credits STOP READING NOW!

Remember, Fury said you think you are the ONLY superhero? Cap was first, in fact Ironman was about last to the invite list. The avengers were pre assembled prior to him coming out.

Avengers movie would be cool IF…….
THEY get the actors who will portray these heros in their solo movies. justice League is going to suffer from an identity crisis. They have unknowns playing the justice Leauge, the movies gonna blow. Trust me. Avengers will rock if they get the people who are playing the heros now to play them in a team movie, but actors have big egos and these things never come together…..

Now the real question is, if you know the Hero universe, who would you like to see play Thor, or Captain America. Can you see Paul Walker playing Captain America??? His name has been tossed around for the role….

  15. Paul Walker? Ugh…they need someone good for that role, someone like Downey who can control the screen by himself.

  16. @AnaDVR, I forgot, yeah antman is Henry Pym, a scientist who has also been know as giantman, and is currently Yellow jacket. His first stint at being a Superhero had him create a helmet that let him control signal frequncies of ants to get them to do his bidding. He was signed to join the Avengers at the same time his wife Janet Pym (the Wasp was), so as Mo stated they are signing up Hero movies to possibly form the Avengers movie. …. dear lord I’m such a nerd…

  17. …..

    You said it. I didn’t. :)

  18. You want an actor who can own the screen, looks like an all-American soldier, and has no problem with comic book movies? Aaron Eckhart.

He would be an amazing Cap.

  19. I’m chaulk full of useless knowledge

  20. Too bad Aaron Eckhart is in Batman as Two-Face :)

  21. Casting cap is gonna be tough… I cant thik of anyone currently that would make an ultimate cap…Brad Pit? Nah… Needs to be someone who is buff, has a commanding performance, who would be a leader… I dunno would be tough for sure, might have to be a newcomer…I cant think of anyone currently.. Eckhart…maybe..but they ten to not let actors cross hero lines, James Mardsen did when he crossed from X-men to Superman returns and they offed him!…

  22. @Cap’n, I didn’t think they’d offed Marsden because he’d crossed from Marvel to DC, I thought they did it because Cyclops is such a massive tool. :)
R.A. Porters last blog post..Anti-social networking

  23. @ R.A LOLOLOL

  24. Casey Affleck!

Needs to buff up a bit :)

  25. Michael Chickless might be good, if he hadn’t been in Fantastic Four already.

  26. Hmmmmm I dont think Casey would make any good hero type… and MC is too thick, he plays a good Thing already though….
