What Does Mel Brooks Think About “Get Smart” With Steve Carell?
Fans of the sitcom version of Get Smart are probably aware that Mel Brooks co-created the show with Buck Henry in 1965. But what does he think about the new movie version of Get Smart starring Steve Carell and Ann Hathaway? Well, the Los Angeles Times interviewed him and he had a few things to say. Here’s just a taste:
It’s got a good director, Peter Segal. Wonderful director. The writers were great. The producers were young and aggressive and smart. But the brilliance is Steve Carell. To choose a guy who’s right in the Don Adams groove. You couldn’t get a better guy than Steve Carell. And yet he doesn’t do Don Adams. He does none of his delivery. He just does Steve Carell.

Get Smart opens in theaters on June 20, 2008.
