A few weeks ago we posted the story about James McAvoy being rumored to play Bilbo Baggins in the new Hobbit movies, but apparently those were just that: rumors.
At least, that’s what McAvoy told Collider out in London during the Wanted press junket:
“…it’s not true by the way, it’s all internet rumoring and nothing else I’m afraid. Sorry.”
Now, I agree with the author over at Collider on this. Plenty of actors have denied being involved with a project only to end up doing exactly what the rumors were saying in the first place.
My only hope is that this is true here, because I was pretty excited about the idea of McAvoy playing Bilbo. Like we said before, he was Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardobe, so he has some experience in the fantasy realm, plus he possesses that all important attribute: an English accent.
He’s seemed like the perfect choice.
On a side note, those rumors also included talks about Jack Black playing the part as well, so let’s hope he’s not their “fall back” guy.

Bummer - McAvoy might have done a pretty good job in this role. Let's hope this is all smoke screen and he ends up with the part.
No way Jack Black gets the part even without McAvoy. Can you imagine the screams that would go out from the fans?
