“Jericho” fans to air TV commercial

The Jericho fans, or “the rangers” as they call themselves, are starting to get serious. It’s not like they weren’t before, what with putting up a full-sized billboard ad in Los Angeles, but now they may even make more of an impact.

A Save Jericho commercial is in the completion stages that will run through June and hope to compel some studio or executive to bring Skeet Ulrich and company back to life.

You can go watch the commercial right now, even though it’s not totally completed yet. Tonight at 10pm EST, there will be a special live showing of the commercial on the Save Jericho Again website.

The fans sent the producers of Jericho a notice about the commercial, and they got an awesome message from Jon Turteltaub:

Jon Turteltaub here and I have to tell you… Wow! I am beyond impressed with both the enthusiasm and the talent that went into the commercial you made. It’s brilliant!

People say we work in a cynical business, but I can tell you that none of us on “Jericho” feel anything less than grateful and encouraged by your support, effort and passion.

We’re still fighting…. and knowing you’re all out there, fighting right along with us, has completely kept this fight alive.

In my career, I have never experienced anything like this. Sometimes, the quantity of fans, viewers and theater goers is only visible in ratings and box-office numbers. But on “Jericho”, you are all very real and very special to us.

Thanks for being there… and for giving us the belief in our show, and in you, even when times are tough.

We’re not done yet!!

Jon Turteltaub

I really, REALLY hope The Rangers’ hard work pays off, because this whole endeavor and effort to save the show is going above and beyond what I’ve ever seen before.

  1. We Rangers are serious as a heart attack. We really want our show back and - potential buyers take note - are obviously willing to put our money where are mouths are.

  2. The Jericho Story has heart. The producers, cast and crew have heart. The feelings for the story and characters grew and became a part of each Ranger's life. The Jericho story is an important story about humanity, about courage, about family and country. It is a story that needs to be told. That is why the Jericho Rangers fight so hard and why we are not willing to just roll over and give up. The Jericho family is worth fighting for.
    Thanks for the write up!

  3. Very amazing guys, I sincerely hope your efforts pay off, because you have gone to lengths no one else has before.

Although Dollhouse is starting MONTHS before the show even airs :)

  4. I do agree the story was pretty awesome…and that was the part that kept me the most interested. The idea of our country being torn apart and trying to rebuild itself was remarkable.

  5. Totally sweet story, if only there were save Journeyman rangers!!! Good luck to you guys!!

  6. This show is brilliant beyond words. You can't compare it to the reality BS thats on tv right now,you just can't.Between the gripping story,to the awesome actors….THIS IS WHY WE FIGHT to keep Jericho on tv. The fan base has gone beyond anything Ive ever seen or been a part of and I am thrilled to be a RANGER! and thrilled to help Save Jericho!

Toronto Loves Jericho! Wake up networks and BRING JERICHO HOME AGAIN !

  7. We Rangers have been very serious from the first nut! Jericho Rocks! I want more.

  8. “I really, REALLY hope The Rangers’ hard work pays off, because this whole endeavor and effort to save the show is going above and beyond what I’ve ever seen before.”

This has to be the best quote ever made. The Jericho fandom is fighting not just for Jericho but for quality TV. We are tired of not being given a choice in what we watch and being told what we will watch. The Save Jericho movement just shows that people are willing to put their money behind the shows they want to support.

  9. There is definitely a human aspect to all of this (the connection between the storylines, fans, actors, and producers etc.) that is sorely missed when decisions to air a program are based solely “on the numbers.” All of the fan efforts to date surely demonstrate that. I've felt all along that there is a social obligation to continue with “Jericho” that is sadly not being met…

  10. Thanks Sigma, but it's the truth man…never have I ever seen such effort to save a show, not after it's already been canceled ONCE before…not even Firefly has this kind of backing.

  11. Thanks to all you Rangers for stopping by and giving this post some buzz…we appreciate it, and good luck again to you all!

  12. I dont watch jericho, but kudos to you guys for going to all this trouble: hope u get the show back! If only things like this had happened for firefly :( good luck!

  13. Thanks Snarglepip. I guess Firefly was just before it's time.

  14. Thanks Mike for the write up! My friends and coworkers all think I'm “nuts” for being involved in this, but it's an amazing feeling to be involved with such wonderful fans, cast, crew & even the producers! Jericho WILL find another home - I have no doubt at all….

  15. No problem…I am pretty amazed at how interactive and available the cast and crew have been with you guys, that's totally awesome.

  16. To say I'm impressed with the effort is an understatement - a frickin' commercial! Are you kidding me? WOW - that's gutsy, expensive and pretty cool. I echo Mike's sentiment - I hope this pays off for all involved in the cause.

  17. We call this the Skeet Ulrich effect. His first show Miracles also had a similar fan campaign — though, it only aired 6 episodes and was cancelled abruptly, the fans rose up and managed to get the 13 episodes put on DVD. It was such an awesome show. I'm so glad that the Jericho fans have surpassed this and I'm rooting for a third season of course. I need to see Skeet and the gang every week!

  18. Thanks for the article Mike, it was great. The Rangers as usual did a great job with the commericial, and having Brad Beyer do the voice was amazing. I am still holding out for season 3 and won't stop fighting until we get it.

  19. Mike, thank you so kindly for the article and thank you fans of jilted shows for showing your support of Jericho.

In this day and time most families cannot sit down like June and Ward were able to do with the boys, many of us are still manning the hospitals, patrolling the streets, working the late shifts, etc. to keep America safe, healthy and productive. We now don't have to miss quality shows because we can TiVo, DVR, download or view online. Jericho just happens to be one of those shows that proves people are willing to go the distance to see their favorite show.

    Thanks for the kind words!!!

  21. Ok - so while working today I sauntered over to CBS's site and watched the first 3 episodes from Season 1. All I can say is so far so good. The show has been pretty engaging and I'm really enjoying it.

  22. Stop it, you're going to get The Rangers TOO excited! :)

Awesome, glad you are liking it…definitely a fun show.

  23. Well, all the intrigue and fans putting up their own hard earned cash in this type of economy - I had to check out what was going on. So far, I'm not disappointed. I'm not to the point where I'm breaking out the checkbook for anyone, but I definitely am enjoying the show.

  24. Thanks for writing this. Jericho is a show worth fighting for, and Rangers don't give up. Thanks for your encouragement!

  25. Trust me. It only gets better. If you're not hooked already, you will be.

  26. Hey, Mike. Thanks for such a great write-up. It's very disheartening when reporters criticize our efforts and tell us to quit wasting our time. Well, it's our time to do with what we see fit . They told us that the first time and we got seven amazing episodes out of our efforts.

At least we've been able to help shine a light on the inadequacies of the Nielsen system.

  27. Definitely agree the ratings systems need to change and to take into account EVERYTHING, like online viewing, downloads, etc.

You know, Grey's Anatomy may get great ratings, but do they get much of an online following like Journeyman and Jericho? How many episodes are watched of Grey's online compared to the other two?

I just hope we see a change in things as time goes by.

  28. Amen. A point to you sir.

  29. Thanks for mentioning the Rangers' campaign to revive a terrific show and push the networks into the future of entertainment. I'd also like to thank you for interacting with your posters; it's a nice change to know the person who prompted a comment is really reading them.
I've watched a lot of TV during my life and fallen in love with many shows. I've even done a bit of campaiging to save a couple of others (BRISCO COUNTY and FARSCAPE), but my involvement with JERICHO — that's a whole 'nother story, on a whole different level. Never thought I'd get so passionate about a show and its fate.
    Fighting for Season 3.

  30. Jason and myself interact probably too much, lol.

Thanks for stopping by…dont be a stranger, we love to talk about
    other shows too!

  31. I would think that they take into consideration online viewers. I would also think that it is a more accurate way to tabulate numbers, or at least easier to get a more true number. I'm guessing that for those who use DirecTv, Cox Cable, Dish Network, etc. our viewing habits and what shows we watch are being reported as well.

  32. FYI the spot is launched and live. It's available at higher res at http://www.savejerichoagain.com and on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBbFL17tqos.

THanks for giving us a mention.

  33. Nope. I know jina will love me mentioning Journeyman, but… NBC blatantly came out and said we will NOT even reivew any online numbers for consideration for renewing the show. they said it should stand on its on merits within its designated timeslots, not on any data from Tivo recordings or online viewings, it only mattered what was watched at that time slot. It was not only ignorant for them to do so, but tends to set the trend for the others as well. Pretty soon everyone will be charging for one piece of baggage to board an airline… oh wait a minute…

  34. What a joke…Do they realize that was how the American version of the Office was saved, from iTunes downloads?

Why on earth would you ignore those numbers? People are watching them online when they have the time to do so. Well, if that is there mentality, then I hope that they are not counting DVD sells either since people who buy them are not watching them in their designated time slots…

  35. I'm totally with you on this my friend…its rediculous they ignore the other data, and most of the save journeyman campaign was in argument against how NBC counted all their dataa, but they wouldnt budge… I have no idea why, perhaps to support advertisers who bought those time slots… I dunno…

  36. I was amazed when I got home from vacation to find out so much had happened. It's so cool!!! I've been a Jericho Ranger since the beginning and have played my part in the effort to save the show. This is the only show I've ever felt so strongly about that I wanted to go to the effort of writing letters, buying nuts, sending postcards, making donations for magazine ads, billboards, and the commercials.
The Jericho fans I've gotten to know are great people from so many different areas and ways of life. I'm honored to have worked and played along side of each of them.
    Thanks for your write up.

  37. It's a really nice commercial. High quality and effective. Good work!

  38. And just for further clarity, I don't know whether you're aware of it or not, but you really are only truly counted if you have an actual Nielsen box. And one Nielsen box is supposed to be representative of like 60,000 households. There have been different numbers reported, but there's only around 25,000 Nielsen families in the United States. The networks take the Nielsen numbers as “Gospel.” And these very few Nielsen people are the ones that get to decide what we watch on TV.

  39. Right, and I think that is part of the break down. The world has moved on so far beyond this way of counting peoples tastes that I am truly surprised that the networks have not adopted them.

  40. [...] last week we posted the news that the Jericho Rangers (fans of Jericho who want to see the show come back for another season) [...]
