Rashida Jones, who played Karen Filippelli on The Office before leaving to star in a pretty awful comedy called Unhitched, is rumored to star in the hush-hush Office spinoff coming this fall.
Kristin Santos over on E! Online is reporting that this is just a “rumor for the time being”, but the news is “rippling” through the television industry today.
She tried to confirm the rumor, but one side says yes, one camp says no, so the rumor remains hearsay.
However, if this does pan out, what do you think? I’m not sure Jones can really carry a comedy all on her own, the supporting cast would have to be great.
Can she?

Has there ever been a successful spinoff of any series? Was Laverine and Shirley a spinoff? maybe that counts….
Why isn't she wearing a bra? Maybe that's how they plan on getting ratings for a spin-off.
I'm not sure if she can or not. She was funny on the Office, but not in league with the rest of the cast. Could be a tough go of it for her.
I think the Jeffersons were a spin-off from Archie Bunker…but I could be wrong.
Thanks for pointing that out, I hadn't noticed, I just through she looked pretty in it
pointing out! hehe… funny, mike.
No pun intended of course.
Spin off's generally suck but Fraiser was excellent and the Jeffersons was a spin off of All in the Family. Laverne and Shirley from Happy Days. And I think there is a connection between the Mary Tyler Moore show and Rhoda or maybe it was Maud and Rhoda.
I think this spin off is a dumb idea, too much too soon.
You're right.
There's been a ton of successful spin-offs over the years. I think Happy Days had like three or four including Mork and Mindy. Frasier is one of the best examples, I guess.
Joanie and Chachi was not one of them!
It was slightly successful for a time.
I preferred Charles in Charge - but that wasn't a spin-off from anything.
How funny a chic caught this and not a dude!!
Yeah ok, goes to show you how little I know… good list on the successful spinoffs, Fraiser was definitely good among others… and Im with Ape, I enjoyed Charles in Charge as well, even though it wasnt a spinoff…
Woot - cheesey 80's Charles in Charge hi-five…
I love Buddy Lembeck
lol - nice. Buddy - what a moron that guy was!
Actually there have been a good number of successful spin-offs.
L&S, Jeffersons, Maude, A Different World, Mork&Mindy, Lou Grant, Frasier, Angel, Benson.
We just remember the Joannie Loves Chachis.
My first two guesses when I first heard about the spinoff from The Office was that they were going to either going to do Karen's office, or they were going to do a completely different company where Ryan would end up as a lowly worker after getting kicked out of Dunder Mifflin.
Then they arrested Ryan and I tossed that idea aside.
I think the show would have to be very different indeed to work with a non-clueless boss. Karen's no Michael Scott.
You guys go off on tangents so easily…it's a wonder you get anything done.
I think Disqus enables us to get off on tangents a lot easier now
That's definitely true. It's a lot easier to reply to each individual now. I'm loving it.
How could I forget Benson? Do you know what Chagi means in Korean? But that was a spinoff of a spinoff.
I love Charles in Charge. Man, I miss that show!

Maybe Jan can be her new boss if she ever gets a job again. That would be hilarious!

That would be funny…and just as dysfunctional (if not more so) that Michael Scott being in charge of Dunder.

It's going to be tricky because no way that people won't compare it to the Office … at least at first. And that's a tough show to have to live up to. a-Good a-Luck a-Karen a-Filipelli!
