Matt Damon has committed to star in Human Factor for Clint Eastwood and Warner Bros. He will be joining Morgan Freeman in the Freeman produced and Eastwood directed film. Shooting will begin early next year in South Africa.
The Anthony Peckham scripted drama is an adaptation of John Carlin’s book “The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World.”
Damon will play rugby star Francois Pienaar, who created, with Nelson Mandela (played by Freeman), an event that gave whites and blacks in South Africa a common cause to rally around as the country was trying to heal from the wounds of apartheid.
Freeman was the moving force behind this production. After receiving Mandela’s blessing, Freeman took the project to his pal Clint Eastwood and to WB where Eastwood has his production deal.
Eastwood will make this his next project after he finishes Gran Torino (you know, the project that’s not a Dirty Harry film).
Damon just wrapped the untitled Paul Greengrass directed drama for Universal based on “Imperial Life in the Emerald City,” and he’s currently starring for Steven Soderbergh in The Informant for Warner Bros. He plans to rest up in the fall and make Human Factor his next starring role.

Damon is the man. It is so strange to see two stars go in such divergent paths with him and Affleck. What a shame because Affleck could have been just as huge.

This sounds very good. Matt Damon sure now how to pick movies.
By the way, nice pic of Damon.
Is this the same story as the old Human Factor movie which was directed by Otto Preminger?
Thanks Jina.
No, Liv. This is completely different. This story revolves around events that happened after Nelson Mandela was released from prison…much too late to have been a movie from Otto Preminger.
What exactly did happen to Ben. He never could act much. I don’t read about actors; just watch a lot of movies.
Certainly need to set aside the notion that Been is simply not too bright after seeing his directorial debut.
He started making terrible choices in scripts. He went after all the blockbuster movies right away instead of taking a more steady approach to his career and it appears to have backfired on him.
