We’ve made it to the last stop on this year’s So You Think You Can Dance audition trail- Milwaukee, WI. And tomorrow brings the Vegas round, where 200 dancers will be whittled down to our Top 20! I am so excited to see who they will be and get started with the actual competition.
In my opinion, the competitive element of SYTYCD is the best of all the reality shows out there. Real talent, intense challenges and a desire to keep the performances current and evolving. Many other shows should take some lessons from their format!
In Milwaukee, the auditioners were lucky the snow delayed itself until after they got inside the building. It looked freezing and I can’t imagine how that impacts a dancer’s movement! There were quite a few awesome dancers featured and of course the not so stellar ones as well.
One person that really had me conflicted was teacher Susie Garcia. OMG! I really hope she still has a job after showing up in that outfit. It was like the resurrection of Christina Aguilera’s “Dirrrty” phase. She was definitely sexy and had some great Latin moves but a little over the top and into herself for me. I was glad to see that after she was sent to the choreography round, she toned down her outfit and took to the contemporary routine well.

A person I was so happy to see was Yesenia Gomez, who got cut in the Vegas round last season. She is definitely a talent and I was amazed at how she took the judges feedback to heart. She lost a ton of weight and had a new confidence that was inspirational. Unfortunately, she is having some knee problems and really needs to get them repaired before the judges put her through again. However, her close friend Philip Courter is a skilled B Boy and goes straight to Vegas.

My favorite from Milwaukee was Evan Kasprzak. He is a throwback to Gene Kelly style, very masculine and classic. But you can tell his talent is adaptable to many forms of dance and he could very well be a shoo in for the Top 20. His audition had personality, uniqueness and skill all rolled into one!

I’ll be back tomorrow for a recap of our Top 20!

“I’d love to see her in heels” - LOL!
Good stuff, I liked Evan a lot.
I don’t get it - how come they aren’t singing?

I’m not one to bang on dances shows…wait…yes I am. Ok, try saying SYTYCD Mikwaukee and not laughing. Seriously, did they already do SYTYCD Des Moines? I’ll bet they found a bunch of talent in SYTYCD Little Rock.

No one will be able to catch up to your comments now.

Don’t be a disbeliever Cap’n. As George Michael said, “you gotta have faith…”
