Ultimate Bad Guy: Let the nominations begin

If you are new to Pop Critics, you may not know about the Ultimate Bad Ass contest we held about a month ago. We nominated the top 32 people who we thought were “bad asses” and pitted them against each other March Madness style. Check it out if you want to see how it all went down.

During that contest we discovered that Benjamin Linus had somehow gotten on the list, which was fine, but he really was more of a villain than anything else. And that got us thinking about bad guys.

From there, we decided we’d do an Ultimate Bad Guy contest once Bad Ass was over and we took a little break.

I think this one might be even more fun, because evil is always cooler than good. Usually.

Although John McClane would probably destroy anything evil. Which brings up an interesting idea:

Once the Ultimate Bad Guy is done…perhaps we’ll pit that winner against McClane to see which side wins: Good or evil. Mwahahahahahahahaaaha!

Nomination Time

Now we need your nominations for bad guys.

What are the rules this go-round? Well, last time we said no superheroes, powers or anything supernatural, but I really want to open this one up. Because there are good names out there, like Darth Vader, Lex Luthor, etc.

And I’d hate to leave them out of this thing.

I will be the deciding factor when it comes to choosing the Top 32 and ranking them, but I need your help to get 32 names.

Men, women, children (The Good Son anyone?), characters, (Professor Moriarty?) creatures (Gollum? although he’s more like a Hobbit really), whatever. I’m really open to all suggestions.

Once I have a Top 32 list, I’ll post them for your viewing pleasure and we’ll make sure that’s the group we want to go with.

So on with the nominations! I’m really looking forward to this one, I think it will be a blast.

Also, hype this up, maybe spread it around Digg or Stumble it, so we can get a great variety of names and a lot of votes this time around. And hopefully a lot less of the “fixing” of matchups. *grin*

  17. Yeah - he was nuts - totally forgot about him.

  18. Ugh - how could I forget…

The Six-Fingered Man (The Princess Bride)

  19. Agreed, Anton is a great choice.

  20. Whaley is *way* more evil in that movie. Poor Michelle Forbes.

  21. Lex is obvious, but just in case, I and my avatar want to make sure no one ever forgets that magnificent bastard.

    1. Billy Mumy's character, Anthony Fremont, from the classic Twilight Zone episode “It's a Good Life”. Gives me creeps just thinking about him sending people into the cornfield.
    2. Jason Voorhees. As unstoppable and indestructible a force as John McClane is for good, Jason is for evil.
    3. Same with Michael Myers.
    4. Arjen Rudd, the South African baddie from Lethal Weapon 2: “Diplomatic Immunity!”
    5. Gilligan. Watch it again.

  23. It's the spaceship in 2001: A Space Odyessy - extremely evil…

  24. The Kevin Spacey character from Se7en. I don't remember his name.
The evil queen on Snow White.
Annie Wilkes, the Kathy Bates character from Misery.
Q, from Star Trek Generations….I know, I know. The nerd is showing in me. :)
    Leatherface
The Parents from The People Under the Stairs

  25. Ah.

  26. Is Spike Lee considered evil for bagging on Clint Eastwood?

  27. Boy you sure have it for Michelle Forbes.

  28. Arvin Sloane…nice one.

  29. WOW Ana, I was just coming on here to bring up Q because I was checking out an episode of TNG on Sci Fi just now :)

  30. I'm going to disagree with the Ice Truck Killer because I thought Lila was far more dangerous than he was.

  31. Dang, can't believe I just thought of this guy:

The Cigarette Smoking Man from X-Files.

  32. I'm guessing lung cancer is kicking his butt right now…

  33. I don't even think I know who the Ice Truck Killer is??

  34. He'd still own you

  35. That's probably because you haven't watched Dexter…

  36. Good thing I'm not fighting him then. :)

  43. Banya! That's gold Dad, gold!

  44. Oooh - Yul from Westworld - nice pick!

  45. wheres the chart of all this so i can study it up? o_O

  46. ROTFL @ Banya!

  47. What about Gaius Baltar?

  48. William 'Bill' Munny (Clint Eastwood's character) from Unforgiven or
Little Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman's character) from Unforgiven

  49. I really need to watch this movie again, I only saw it once.

  50. Sometimes you make me sad.

  51. I have that affect on people

  52. Actually, I remember when I first saw it that it seemed very boring to me and I couldn't believe it won an Oscar for Best Picture.

But I think I was young and just didn't appreciate it. Definitely need to rent it.

  53. Yes - you must watch it again. I hated Westerns and some friends of mine literally dragged me to the theater to watch this movie and I'm glad they did. It was a well-done film and Clint was terrific in it. I loved it - I might even own it, I'm not sure…

  54. Did you ever see Silverado? That's pretty much my favorite Western…

  55. No - I have never been a Western movie fan. I haven't watched any John Wayne movies or Clint Eastwood Westerns except for The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly and Unforgiven.

Blazing Saddles is more my speed.

  56. Great, great, great movie. I'm sure you would feel differently about it now.

  57. Gaius maybe…not a bad pick. Always good to have someone from BSG on it, although maybe Caprica Six would be better.

  58. Dick Cheney. He beats them all.

  59. Nice :)

You get a point, welcome to the site :)

  60. Silverado is definitely good.

  61. Good call on Salieri from Amadeus waaay up by the top. He totally owned Mozart in the best way (too bad God kinda ended up owning him).
William Munny from Unforgiven also a good choice.
    Emperor Ming from Flash Gordon
Jean Baptiste Emanuele Zorg from The Fifth Element
    The Alien from Alien
    Bill Lumberg from Office Space

  62. Okay, Bill Lumberg is awesome :)

Also, what about The Soup Nazi on Seinfeld? :)

  63. Angel Eyes (The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly)
Anton Chigurh (No Country for Old Men)

  64. “Where's the dog?”

  65. LOL good choice, really had to dig deep to remember that one :)

Also, im surprised no ones said Khan (KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!)

  66. Soup Nazi wasn't evil - but real Nazi's are.

  76. Yeah, it's probably my fault.

  77. LOL!

  78. Uwe Boll

  79. Is that English…?

  80. Uh… you mean “Simon”, not Mike…

  81. I'm pretty sure it was Mike - but I might be wrong I guess…

  82. Mike is the lawyer / law student guy…

  83. If your wife is telling you you're wrong, you may as well just admit it and get that pain over with

  84. LOL

  85. I had checked IMDB before posting - maybe I can't recognize faces anymore…

  86. lol

  87. How about Agent Smith from “the Matrix”?

  88. After further review (and some IM chatting) I have come to the conclusion that I am mistaken…

  89. It’s kinda hard to discuss the villain in this movie… since I know some people disagree on who exactly it is… It’s also hard to discuss it here in the open forum without ruining the movie for people who haven’t seen it yet.

  90. I thought it was Uwe Blab the former German Center for the Indiana Hoosiers

  91. how do we give points, cause Jason needs 3 for that one, LOL

  92. Agent Smith another great one, man we have a better bad guy list than good guy list….

  93. I feel ya bro… once, I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

  94. Ha

  95. Yeah, Agent Smith is great, and Cap'n is right

  96. Sorry Ape. Is this better? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uwe_Boll

  97. Interesting…looks like he made a movie from one of my favorite video games: Dungeon Siege. I've never heard of him before.

  98. Oh man, I have so many favorite “villains” in movies. I gotta think about this before I throw out a predictable answer.

  99. Tru dat…double tru.
