Well, here is a fun week in DVD releases if I ever saw one. No new movies that really stand out, but there are some good TV shows to be had and some older films being re-released on Blu-Ray and deluxe editions that make me want to once again go out and purchased a PS3 so I can join the blu crew.
Burn Notice: Season 1
I’m about to start watching this series on Hulu, which is free of course, but if you want to see it on your television all nice and big, then head out to the store to pick this up, or visit Amazon.
I’ve heard nothing but GREAT THINGS about Burn Notice, and season 2 begins in July, so now is the time to catch up. We’ll be doing recaps of the series right here on Pop Critics, so make sure you stop by for those in July and througout the summer. (Amazon)
Jericho: The Second Season, Jericho: The Complete Series
It’s crazy that they are charging $19.99 for only seven episodes from season two of Jericho, so you may as well go ahead and get 29 episodes for $48.99. (Amazon)
That’s right, you go from $2.85 per episode to $1.65 with the complete series. Why am I doing all this math for you? Because I’m having a kid in December and all I do is LOOK FOR BARGAINS!
Definitely a series you should check out and one that COULD be back in the fall of the Jericho Rangers have anything to do with it.
“Nuts!”
Men In Black (Blu-Ray)
Ah, good ol’ Men In Black, one of my favorite Will Smith movies. It’s out finally in beautiful Blu-Ray high definition and it’s a must-have if you are a fan.
Or if you have a Blu players, which I don’t, so I’m going to go cry now. (Amazon)
Be Kind, Rewind
The Jack Black, Mos Def comedy about a video store’s supply of movies being erased by a magnent, so the employees fix it by filming their only version fo the movies and putting them in the original boxes.
This was suppsoed to be pretty funny, but I never saw it. Might be the time! (Amazon)
The Sword in the Stone: 45th Anniversary Edition
First off, I had no idea this movie was 45-freaking-years-old, and seconde, I loved it when I first saw it.
This special edition has a game, a short film, behind-the-scenes interactive program and much more. Check out all the features here. (Amazon)
So I Married An Axe Murderer (Blu-Ray) (also Deluxe Edition)
I’m not sure if it matters if this movie is in high-definition or not, either way, it’s one of my all-time favorites, the best movie Mike Myers ever did and a comedy that never, ever fails to make me laugh over and over and over.
One of my favorites parts of the movie is when they are finally sure she’s NOT the murderer from the tabloid papers, and then at their reception, she suddenly busts out with “Only You”, and then to make it worse, she sings it in Russian. That scene kills me every time.
There is a Deluxe Edition coming out too, but for the life of me, I can’t find any details on the special features, so who knows what it’s got. (Amazon)
All Blu-Ray Releases:
- Be Kind Rewind (New Line)

“Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins” also comes out today. Not my thing, but I've heard some people say it was pretty funny.
Burn Notice - had it pre-ordered awhile back so it is shipping today from Amazon and I'll have that folded into my collection on the 19th - woot!!!
So I Married An Axe Murderer - oh man, I've got a funny story about that - one of my all-time favorite comedies - hilarious movies
Men In Black was great - nice to see that they are in Blu as well!
Just finished season 1 of Burn Notice on Hulu and can't wait for season 2.
Check it out if you like special ops / spy stories.
