When the name Solomon Kane crossed my path many months ago, I’d never heard of it before. But it had a certain ring to it. It just sounds noble and deadly, doesn’t it?

Or perhaps I added the deadly part once I learned who he was. From Wikipedia:

Solomon Kane is a somber-looking man who wanders the world with no apparent goal other than to vanquish evil in all its forms.

Coolness. His stories were published in the pulp magazine Weird Tales back in the 1920s and 1930s.

There is a movie called Solomon Kane coming out sometime in 2008, and we posted the teaser poster for it back in November.  It stars James Purefoy and I’m hoping it turns into something great. The film is currently in post-production according to IMDB.

Marvel Comics published a few comic books for Solomon Kane back in the 1970s and 1980s, but now the entire series is being started afresh with writer Scott Allie. It’s marked in the genre of horror fantasy.

CBR published some exclusive images from six pages of this new comic book series, with the first issue due out in September. The story is a 5-issue adaptation of The Castle of the Devil, a tale written by the original creator of Kane, Robert E. Howard.

The art looks pretty cool, but also very, very graphic. The sight of intestines being wrapped around a sword and then spilling out are gruesome.

I’m looking forward to this. It might be a good precursor to the eventual movie release. Hopefully it’s a good enough run that the comic extends on past five issues.
