Supernatural Thriller The Lost Patrol Going Cross-Platform
Legendary Pictures has acquired a supernatural thriller script called The Lost Patrol for Matt Cirulnick. They are developing an an elaborate cross-platform launch planned for 2010. Cirulnick will adapt Andrew Hilton’s screenplay.
While we know next to nothing about the actual film, The Lost Patrol, we know a lot about how they plan to market it. They are turning The Lost Patrol into what is called a transmedia property similar to Heroes, Star Trek and Lost where filmmakers tailor tie-ins for various digital platforms from the outset including cell phones, videogames, and the internet.
This cross-platform approach is designed to feed into, and build, a devoted (cult) following for the film long before it ever actually hits theaters. As most of us know by now, the approach has worked very well on sci-fi projects (including those mentioned above) in the past. You should expect to hear plenty more about this film in the months to come.
Rick Porras and Steven Boyd are producing the project.
Cirulnick has several projects in the works, including Stones, a supernatural thriller Ridley Scott will direct for Fox 2000, Elysium for New Regency, and Vandal for Spyglass.
