Adam Sandler Turned Down A Role In Inglorious Bastards - Mike Myers Did Not

It was recently confirmed that Brad Pitt would be leading Quentin Tarantino’s band of Inglorious Bastards. A few other low key casting choices were announced as well. What we didn’t hear then was that Adam Sandler was offered a role in the film - and turned it down. We also didn’t hear until now that Mike Myers will be taking that role.

Apparently Adam Sandler and Quentin Tarantino have been friends for years and have talked about Sandler being in this movie for a long time. Unfortunately (for Sandler), he had some scheduling issues:

“Yeah it’s true. It is, and I read the script, it’s fantastic. But I’m shooting at the very same time. I won’t be able to do it. [....] not going to happen, but I did read it. It is awesome. [...] I know Quentin for a long time. We’ve been talking about doing it for years, for like five, six, seven years.”

Honestly, after having seen Sandler in Reign Over Me I think he would have done just fine in Bastards. Although, he’s usually acting goofy he does have a lot of natural talent and he’s actually a pretty decent actor.

Up until now we really haven’t been able to say the same thing for Sandler’s replacement in Inglorious Bastards, Mike Myers. News is just coming out this morning that Myers will be taking the role that Tarantino wanted Sandler to do. Tarantino has stressed that it’s a SMALL role, but that hasn’t stopped the blogosphere from dumping all over the decision.

Seriously, I don’t know what their problem is. It’s not like Tarantino is going to have Myers come out and act like Dr. Evil or something. He’s going to do a good job. Even if it were a bigger role he’d probably do a good job.

Anyone remember what Travolta was doing before Pulp Fiction? Yeah, a little movie called Look Who’s Talking Now. I think Myers will be just fine.

  1. I hope Myers does a good job in this, his career could sure use the boost of a good movie. If comes close to Sandler in Reign over me or Click, he'll be fine.

  2. I just can't see Mike Myers doing “real” action or a war movie, unless it's some sort of analogue to Oddball in Kelly's Heroes or something, though I think that would be distracting.
