MTV’s high definition music channel, called MHD, is a very popular destination for fans of concerts and other musical related programming. I’ve seen a few items of interest on it, including a sweet Snow Patrol concert from the Isle of Wight Festival.

The biggest plus to this channel of course is that it’s 100% high definition. The images are great, the sound is perfect and if you are a music buff, MHD is the place for you.

Well, MTV thinks it’s pretty good too and have decided to give it a real name: Palladia. Along with the name will come a whole bunch of new programming.

From Billboard we get the news:

“It’s a bigger, more distinct name for a channel that has grown in size as well as satisfaction among music HD fans,” said VH1 executive VP/GM Tom Calderone, who also oversees Palladia.

“We’re also reinforcing that the channel is the home for an increasingly broad range of musical styles and artists in high-def performances that can’t be seen anywhere else.”

Palladia will launch the new programming on September 1st and feature a brand new concert every Saturday. They’ll also be doing Outdoor Week to begin September and feature outdoor concerts from people like Madonna, Usher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Jay-Z, Amy Winehouse and Kanye West.

The new stuff will reportedly also have tune-based movies as well. One can only hope for daily repeats of Dirty Dancing in high definition!

A lot of cable/satellite providers offer MHD/Palladia, so look for it if you’ve never checked it out before.
