It’s only August and Austin’s own South By Southwest (SXSW) festival doesn’t kick off until March, but that doesn’t mean that nothing is happening. They’re actually working hard to prepare next year’s interactive, music, and film festival / conference.
The 2009 South By Southwest Film Festival is scheduled for March 13-21. They have a brand new site up for the event and you can now begin submitting your films for consideration if you’re so inclined. You have until December to get your short or feature film to the festival if you’re hoping to make the cut.
Already scheduled to be screened at the 2009 festival are the SXSWclick winners, which were recently announced. The Grand Jury award for the short-film contest went to Peter and Ben, by Pinny Grylls. It was also the winner in the documentary shorts category. Little Pumpkin, directed by Tiffany Bartok, won the coveted Popularity Contest award. You can watch these films and all the winning shorts on the SXSWclick site. They’ve actually posted all the finalists for your viewing pleasure.
Since I live in Austin I’m hoping to be able to cover much of the festival for you this next year. That is, the film festival. Tickets to these events don’t come cheap and I’m only one man, so we’ll have to see what I can work out. Hopefully, I’ll be able to cover more than enough to let you guys know what it’s like down here when SXSW is going on.

That would be cool if you could give us all the inside scoop. I would love to go to SXSW sometime - for the movies and music. I am a little jealous of you Austinites… or whatever they call you.
Need another reason to hate Austin beside its City Limits http://www.funfunfunfest.com/lineup/
I know… I heard about this one too. What is it that they get everything good… I live in the wrong city for sure.
Hope you make it out there Jason!
