30 Rock Going Nutso With Guest Appearances

Whoever is in charge of guest appearances on 30 Rock might want to take a week off or something.

Jason told us a few days ago about the big Jennifer Aniston news that she’ll be playing a Liz Lemon stalker in an upcoming episode, but that was apparently just the tip of the iceberg.

Rumors are now flying that Oprah Winfrey is in final negotiations for her own guest appearance on the third-year comedy series starring Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin.

But even as that news broke, we now are hearing that the two Gossip Girls, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, will ALSO guest star on 30 Rock this season. They’ll be playing high school friends of Lemon’s in flashbacks as we discover she used to be a Mean Girl.

Hilarious.

Along with Matthew Broderick from last season, the producers of 30 Rock are going berserk with these celebrity guest appearances. Even Jerry Seinfeld was a guest last year.

While some may be freaking out about this, I’ve seen nothing from 30 Rock in the past two seasons that make me think they don’t know how to handle these things within the confines and style of their show. No matter who has been on an episode, it’s still always focused around Liz Lemon or Jack Donaghy.

But it is true that the ratings haven’t been awesome, and so these “stunts” could smack of desperation to boost their viewers.

What do you guys think? Is this getting crazy yet?

  1. I'm actually fine with it. Like you said, they've always handled guest appearances really well. I have no reason to think they won't continue to have some of the best writing on TV.

  2. It's a wait and see situation for me. I hope they don't mess up the normal mastery of their show.

  3. Loving it!

Friends had a lot of guest stars on one season. I really enjoyed that. Let's home this will be just as good.
