Mike’s Pull List for the Week of September 3rd

Uncontrollable forces kept me away from Atomic Comics this past Wednesday, so you’re getting my unbelievably awesome pull list a day late. I know that some of you out there haven’t been able to focus on anything else because of the delay, so I apologize.

It wont happen again. Or it will, who knows.

I read everything I picked up last week and really enjoyed the Spider-man: Secret Invasion issue, as well as Necronomicon. Superman was interesting, although the final page with the Dog was a bit funny to me.

I also finally read Hard Boiled. I don’t think I have a depraved enough vocabulary to describe what it was about. It was seriously unlike anything I’ve read so far. Definitely one of the most violent and R-Rated graphic novels I’ve read thus far in my life. The artwork was amazingly detailed and massive in scope on some panels. There are a few that easily contain upwards of 200-300 dead bodies, all having been killed in varying styles.

Now on to the new stuff this week:

Fringe #1 of 6

Definitely excited about this comic book series, as it will give us some backstory to the television series that starts next Tuesday. There is a prequel to this series that we posted back in August, so check that out first.

Who knows, by the time you read this Pull List story, I may have a quickie review of the comic book done a bit later.

The first Fringe comic contains two stories. The first is called Like Minds, and the second is The Prisoner. To the right is a sample page.

Nightwing RIP? (#148)

The Nightwing series for the Batman RIP storyline has been great so far. In fact, the Nightwing RIP line is so popular, if I wasn’t already getting it in my box at the comic book store, I wouldn’t have been able to purchase it otherwise. It was sold out within a day.

The cover shows Nightwing lying in a pool of blood shaped like a bat…awesome.

Batman: Detective #848 (RIP)

Another side story from the Batman RIP series. The last one was fairly interesting, and this is only my second Detective comic book so far.

Y: The Last Man, Volume 10

Finally I get to read the last volume in this amazing comic book series. The conclusion promises to be awesome judging from the cover (right) and I’m stoked to read it into the wee hours of the morning sometime this weekend.

Kick-Ass: #1-3 Collected

I purchased this just to get #2, because I’ve read #1 and have #3-4 sitting at home already.

Battlestar Galactica: Season Zero, #12

This series is stacking up next to my bed. I’ve got about 5-6 previous issues to read for Season Zero, not to mention a bunch for Origins. Somehow, I keep putting them off, so maybe it’s time to just nix it from my pull list?

Your Turn

What did you guys pick up this week? What are you reading?

Also, before I leave you, I took the photo below while at Atomic Comics today. I’ve now seen everything.

  1. See, I'm going to tell you something that you almost learned for yourself this week. Monday was a holiday. New comics day WAS Thursday.

Diamond is a back-ass-wards distribution company, so every time there's a holiday they push new comics out to Thursday. Which seems perfectly reasonable if the holiday was on Monday. Seems much less so when it's Friday, July 4 and the following week's comics don't come out until Thursday the 10th.

You are going to *love* the end of Y.

As for my pulls…I have no idea. I'll probably go in on Friday or Saturday to pick them up. Having a hellacious week.

  2. Wow, you are right…I had no idea…interesting. Makes sense to push it back a day if there is a Monday holiday, but not a Friday one…

Still, everyone else in the world sticks to their release days…like Tuesdays for DVDs, etc…

  3. I don't even think a HSM comic book could get me to open a box at Atomic Comics… sorry Mike.

  4. I almost grabbed it for you :)
