Way back in May we told you about a movie George Clooney had signed up for called The Men Who Stare At Goats. At the time the script was just hitting Cannes so we didn’t know a whole lot about it other than the fact that Clooney wanted to star in it and Grant Heslov planned to direct. Well, now we’re getting word of who’s interested in co-starring and some big names are involved.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, and Jeff Bridges are all currently in negotiations to co-star with Clooney in the film based on British journalist Jon Ronson’s book about the U.S. Army’s First Earth Battalion, a unit that was to use paranormal powers.
The Hollywood Reporter describes the project thusly:
Based on the book by the Guardian columnist Jon Ronson, ‘Goats’ is set in Iraq and centers on Bob Wilton (McGregor), a desperate reporter who stumbles upon the story of a lifetime when he meets Lyn Cassady (Clooney), who claims to be a former secret U.S. military psychic soldier who was reactivated post-Sept. 11.
“Goats” chronicles the two men’s travels through Iraq and offers glimpses into the supposedly real secret Army unit tasked with creating soldiers with paranormal powers.
The script was written by Peter Straughan and topped the 2007 British List of the best unproduced screenplays so I’m actually kind of excited to hear more about it. I think the plot allows for tons of possibilities. Clooney has a solid reputation for making good movies and the cast that’s lining up to co-star is top-notch. This definitely sounds like a project to keep our eyes on.
No word on if they plan to change that title, though…

I hope they don't change the title…it's awesome
I like it too. I'd watch a movie with that title no matter what it was really about.
