Vin Diesel Set To Return For Another xXx

We first told you way back at the first of August that Vin Diesel was interested in coming back to the xXx franchise, but now Variety has caught up and is reporting that Columbia is in talks with Joe Roth for a new version of xXx that would bring back Diesel and director Rob Cohen.

This is basically the same story we reported on last month except that it’s not just a rumor this time and it’s actually happening. The proposed third film has a title, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, even if it doesn’t yet have a script.

Everyone involved in this wants it to happen so there’s little doubt that it will. The only thing that seems to have kept Diesel from reprising his role in the first sequel was his asking price which, one assumes, has come down considerably since he was last asked to do one of these films.

Now, whether or not this is a good thing for Vin Diesel is up for debate. I personally think it could have been a good thing for him, but that it’s less so now that he’s already passed up the second one and hurt the franchise. If he had made the second film and kept the franchise alive it would have been a solid series for him and the studio. I still think it will do well, but it’s going to have to be a really good film to bring the audiences back.

Apparently, Diesel himself either thinks it’s a good idea or likes the thought of having some successful franchises to fall back on. He recently finished filming Fast & Furious, the fourth film in another franchise that he jumped ship on after the first film.

What do you think? Will you be excited to see Vin Diesel reprise his role in the xXx franchise?

  1. Pacifier 2, baby!

  2. Hey, don't joke. That movie made a lot of money. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they tried to do a sequel.

  3. Excuse me? I never joke about Vin Diesel, or “badass saddled with kids who may overmatch him” movies. Next you'll be intimating that Major Payne wasn't Damon Wayans' crowning glory. I got my eye on you, buddy.

  4. “Killin' is mah business, an' business is guuuuuuuuud!”

  5. Well, Major Payne WAS Damon Wayans' crowning glory!

“I've been known to cut a rug.”

  6. I say bring on XXX3 and let's just pretend the second one never happened.
