I have purposely tried to not pay attention to the spoiler sites out there, the little screen captures of the “monster” in Cloverfield, or any other hype about it. Even movie reviews that are starting to come out on the film I’ve not really read, only scanned, so that nothing taints the experience.
I’ve been looking forward to this movie for too long to have it disappointed for me, hence my psycho-ness about this stuff. Still, my Google Reader hit on a review of it on The Movie Blog and they gave it an 8 out 10.
Okay, I saw that one and it made me a bit more excited about Friday. I didn’t want to look, but I couldn’t help myself. I just skimmed down to the rating at the bottom and moved on, so I’m still somewhat in the dark as much as one can be with all the previews being show.
But Jina did forward me Whitney’s take on the movie from Pop Candy, and she had some good advice I think which makes my strategy of skipping all the spoilers that much better:
1. Go in with no expectations. Try to forget about the hype and just take pleasure in the film, which is 90 minutes of frightful fun. If you’ve been ignoring the online “clues” and whatnot, you might even be at an advantage.
2. Do not sit in the front row. Reviews will probably compare this to The Blair Witch Project, partly because of the handheld camera work. On Monday we may hear from moviegoers who couldn’t handle the shakiness. I’m not sure how I could’ve prepared for it, but I’m warning you: It’s pretty severe.
The shaky camera doesn’t bother me at all, I for one was thrilled in the Bourne Supremacy, and even The Blair Witch Project was cool.
I’m just looking forward to going in with no expectations other than to enjoy a wild ride. I hope to somehow see it Friday night, maybe Saturday morning and get a review posted right after.
What about you all? Anyone hitting the theaters this weekend to be some of the first to see it

Definitley trucking out to the Cine Capri (big theater in Phx) for this one…..looking forward to it!
Were going Friday night. Want to go with us?
I was thinking more like late Friday, 10pm or so, to avoid a bit of the crowd…
Are you saying this would be Mo’s first movie group blog outting (since we were going to do this for I Am Legend)? Hey if you want to go late, I might be able to make it for a late showing for this….
I could possibly be persuaded to do that, the only downside is Cine Capri could be packed for the late show on Friday.
You have it all wrong…who’s pursuading who for Mo’s first annual movie blog gathering? Are all of your adoring reading fans pursuading you to go or you are coordinating your fans to go?
If you had planned on near your house for conveince sake, no biggie, and I can save a trip since I live near disneyland anyways…
hey! just saw the movie Cloverfeild today. it was ok. but i wasnt really crazy on the ending. i liked how the guy filmed it himslef it makes it more ‘real’ but one question… why was the name cloverfeild?? i didnt really get that. and another thing… that one girl who got bit and died, did they kill her or was that big splash of blood like coughed up??
Lisa, I’m pretty sure she exploded from the insides…
And the name Cloverfield really doesn’t mean much, I don’t think we’re supposed to know.
The ending it tough for people because usually we like to have things wrapped up for us, but this was something different.
ya…but the ending was ok. did u like the movie??
I sure did Lisa, you can read my review of it here if you want:
