24: Exile Becomes 24: Redemption

You thought Jack Bauer was being exiled? No, no, no. That’s not it. Perhaps a title change is in order? What if they change the name of the 24 movie from 24: Exile to 24: Redemption? Will that make it easier for you to understand what’s going on? Good.

In case you missed the news, Fox officially changed the name of the 24 “movie” from, well, 24: Exile to 24: Redemption. That way they can just skip the stuff about the exile and just get on with the drama-laced redemption. One can only assume.

What hasn’t changed, that we know of, is the movie’s plot which finds Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in Africa working as a missionary and trying to escape his wanted status in the United States. Obviously, since this is Jack Bauer and no one is going to buy him as a missionary for long, Jack finds himself in the middle of an African warlord’s warpath instead of escaping notice. I’m guessing there’s going to be one very sorry African warlord before Jack is done.

The film is designed to bridge the gap between Season 6 and the long delayed Season 7 which will air come next January. However, after doing some research a while back it seems that they plan to have only 22 regular season episodes this year. So, if you count the two hour film as the equivalent of two hour long episodes…we’re getting exactly the same amount of 24 as we always do. Bummer.

If you miss the movie on TV, don’t get too worried. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will be releasing the whole thing on DVD on Tuesday, November 25th which will be just a few days after it airs on televison…for free.

  1. This is like the big Revenge of the Jedi to Return of the Jedi name change :)

  2. It should be called '24: the lack of 2 additional episodes while Keifer sits in the can'… now THATS a title!

  3. 24: Oops, We Meant 22

  4. lol - yeah, almost just as big!

  5. You may have already told us this… but will this be in the 2 hours of real-time that other 24 episodes are? If not, 22 episodes + a movie really wouldn't equal 24.

  6. I'm not sure. I've heard contradictory news on that. The last I heard it IS in real time and takes place over a two hour period…which is why I felt it seemed like a gip.

  7. “…we’re getting exactly the same amount of 24 as we always do.”

uh, no…. We're still going to be short 24 episodes for last season. Sorry suckers.

  8. Jack kicks so much ass, he can do in 22 hours what it takes a normal man 24.

  9. A normal man would take a nap…or a leak…during that time. Not Jack. Jack has so much butt to kick, he doesn't get any breaks.

  10. The new season will have 24 episodes as usual.
