Well, I was waiting to see what, if anything, Amazon.com would do for those of us morons who purchased HD-DVD players prior to the total death of the technology.
Other stores, like Best Buy and Circuit City, all offered people full refunds, credits, etc., towards Blu-Ray players, or even money back.
Word comes down today that Amazon.com isn’t going to be going as far as those companies did, but they WILL be offering a $50 credit to anyone who purchased a HD-DVD player from them prior to February 23rd, 2008.
Now, it’s not like it’s as awesome as cash or like a huge discount off a Blu-Ray player, but at least I get to keep my HD-DVD player (the upconversion is awesome) and still get $50 credit.
My next goal when I get this credit, is to probably use it towards a Blu-Ray player once they drop a bit.
This credit supposedly is being sent out via email, which I’ve not received yet, but EngadgetHD has a copy of one, which you can see below.
Dear Amazon.com Customer,
As someone who purchased an HD DVD player from us before February 23, 2008,* you might like to hear about a special offer available from Amazon.com.
New technologies don’t always work out as planned. We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com.** Just use promotional code XXXXXXXXXX when checking out. The code is valid through April 9, 2009, so you have plenty of time to use your credit. Purchases from third-party merchants on our site are not eligible.
* On February 23, 2008, the last manufacturer of HD DVD players announced it was ceasing production of those players.
** Offer cannot be used to pay for special-order titles, e-books or downloadable e-content, wireless service plans, gift certificates, gift-wrap, taxes, or shipping and handling charges. $50.00 promotional credit is per HD DVD player purchased prior to February 23, 2008 – up to 10 units for a maximum credit of $500.00.

Thats nice they and other companies dont let customers foot the bill (entirely) and at least offer something, thats pretty good of them right?
Yeah, getting $50 out of this is okay, I just hope Google doesn’t catch that letter from Amazon as spam
Hey Mike - you keep raving that at least you have the up-conversion from your HD playa. Just in case you did not know, Blu-ray players up-convert too.

I think Mike needs a hug or maybe a number to a good shrink. just a thought.
His $50 certificate might be transferable to a shrink - you just never know about this things.

He could always give it a try…
He can give the $50 to me and I’ll analyze him.
Let’s see…
Spends too much time commenting and posting on entertainment news sites…
Watches too much television…
Enjoys watching The Office, BSG, and Lost just a little too much…
Wait…was I analyzing Mike or myself…?
Bad Jason - you didn’t get paid first…

Heck, I called in sick today to get some homework done, and what do I do? I went to see The Ruins!
I have a problem!
Was that wrong? Should Mike not have done that?
On the next Oprah.
