Sometimes I love it when you guys send in news stories that you think might be of interest to us here at Pop Critics.
But on occasions such as this one, I’m wishing my spam filter had caught The Capn’s email. Or that this entire story was a bad dream.
According to a United Kingdom website named The Telegraph, 62-year-old Cher has been hand-picked by Christopher Nolan to play Catwoman opposite Christian Bale in the next Batman film.
Almost since the day Christian Bale was cast in Terminator Salvation we’ve been telling you this was a movie to keep your eyes on. Until Bale joined the cast the whole thing had pretty much been a joke. Christian Bale’s involvement not only gave the whole thing credibility, it established the trilogy as something that we could actually get excited about.
British media is reporting that the Batman himself, Christian Bale, was to be questioned by police over allegations he assaulted his mother and sister on the night before the European premiere of The Dark Knight.
I was lucky enough to go see The Dark Knight a second time this weekend, something that I rarely have a desire to do with most films.
In fact, I can name the few movies that I saw in theaters multiple times within a week or two of the opening: All three Lord of the Rings and Jurassic Park
With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.
To butcher a famous line by Jack Nicholson, the original Joker from Batman:
“I have given a name to my Oscar….and it is Batman.”
More specifically, The Dark Knight.
I know there are movies yet to come this year that will be brilliant and amazing. Maybe the Curious Case of Benjamin Button will be a movie that warrants Academy attention.
But if there was ever going to be a time that an action-packed, superhero adventure was to win that coveted Best Picture Oscar…The Dark Knight is it. Hands down. And I wont forget to mention a Best Supporting Actor nod as well.
By now most everyone has heard the buzz about how The Dark Knight could have the biggest opening weekend in box office history. Even here at Pop Critics we asked the question of whether or not The Dark Knight would break box office records. Nearly everyone has an opinion and nearly everyone assumes the movie will be huge. But just how big will it be? Well, I’m glad you asked.
Everyone’s been talking about how the teaser trailer for Terminator Salvation would be attached to The Dark Knight this weekend and today some news agencies were even saying that the teaser might hit the web as early as tonight or tomorrow morning. Well, scratch that. We’ve got it right here, right now!
I’d been wanting to see Batman: Gotham Knight ever since I first heard about it. The screenshots we saw early on, and then the five-minute scene we posted totally got the blood flowing.
There was another reason to check it out. Word was that it bridged the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, due in theaters this Friday.
That’s all a thing of the past now. I’ve seen it and loved it.
You wouldn’t think that something you can get exclusively by buying a pizza from Dominoes would really be all that special (no offense to Dominoes). But as part of a promotional campaign for The Dark Knight, Dominoes Pizza is offering access to its “Dark Knight Vault” to any customer who places an order online. I didn’t place an order online, but I do know what awaits us in the vault.
If you recall way back in May, I posted a blog about the guys at SaveSuperman.com who were furiously working hard to get DC Comics to reinvent the Superman movie franchise and save it from the grasps of Bryan Singer and Brandon Routh.
Well, I don’t think they had anything to do with this news, but I’m sure they are positively giddy over it.
Sometimes waiting for an official trailer from an upcoming blockbuster film just isn’t good enough. If you can’t get the actual preview itself, then perhaps a description of it works just the same.
The guys at Aint it Cool News got their hands on a reported script/description for the first trailer/teaser of Terminator: Salvation, the next chapter in the Terminator franchise, which stars Christian Bale as John Connor.
Okay, now don’t get too excited, but this is the coolest rumor I’ve heard all week. The British tabloids are reporting that Christian Bale is in talks to join Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood film, Nottingham, as Robin Hood himself.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that Michael Mann’s upcoming gangster film Public Enemies is one of the films I’m most looking forward to. I even bought the book last week to try to read it before the movie comes out.
The cast of Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins (or whatever it will be called) got even better this weekend when Ron Howard’s daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, joined the cast.
