David Duchovny Enters Rehab For Sex Addiction

I’m not sure we’d ordinarily report on something like this, but I find it highly ironic that David Duchovny plays a sex-obsessed character on the Showtime series Californication and he has now checked himself into a clinic to be treated for sex addiction.

Duchovny won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Hank Moody on Californication, but now everyone has to be wondering how much acting he was really doing. Of course, no one really knows what it means to be addicted to sex as there hasn’t been any mention of untold numbers of prostitutes or even adultry on the part of Duchovny who is married to actress Tea Leoni.

The couple have two children together and are looking for a bit of privacy as you might imagine.

Duchovny released a statement via his publicist saying, “I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family.”

The statement made by his lawyer, Stanton “Larry” Stein, to People Magazine who broke the story, said, “I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction.”

If you’re interested in seeing where art meets real life, the second season of Californication starts on September 28.

  1. My wife and I just started watching season one last night and she wondered how his wife took it having him act with so many naked women. Well I guess life is imitating art.

  3. Wonder if they are done filming episodes or what…if not, will he continue?

I feel for the guy, and hope he gets past this. Embarrassing and courageous of him to announce it publicly.

  7. This is sad. Addiction is an fascinating thing… and I can imagine playing a character like that could affect your attitudes or pre-deposition to something like a sexual addiction. You know, maybe you become numb to the idea of what is going on. Too bad for his family.

  11. I for one believe that this is just a lie to promote the second season and I think Duchovny and his wife have a perfectly healthy relationship and sex-life. This is just a low way of marketing.
