Day Break coming to DVD March 11th

In the Fall of 2006, a little show premiered that actually developed a following of sorts by a small fan base, which of course got their loyalties smashed all over the place when NBC ABC canceled it after only six episodes.

It was called Day Break and starred Taye Diggs and Moon Bloodgood (from Journeyman). Taye Diggs played a detective named Bret Hopper who keeps reliving the same day over and over and over again, with no clue why.

Sounds a bit like the book Replay I just read, but it’s a lot different of course.

The day he starts repeating is a day when he’s framed for a murder, and he uses each repeat to build upon what he knows to try and figure out who is behind this conspiracy.

I always get into shows like this. A little supernatural, a little time travel, and I’m hooked. Day Break was okay, not awesome, but it kept my interesting and I was kind of bummed I never found out what happened at the end.

Well, now you can as the entire 13-episode season of Day Break is coming to DVD on March 11th. The episodes are all in anamorphic widescreen and shown with 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound. There are some decent extras like commentaries on each episode, interviews and more.

I couldn’t find whether the finale of the 13th episode answers major questions or not, but I’m sure the answer is out there. I partially didn’t WANT to find it for fear of ruining it for me.

You can pre-order it here at Amazon.com, or just wait until it hits Blockbuster in March.

  1. If the writers strike doesn’t end soon, this may be the best thing available. I’d like to know how it ended as I thought the show was really good.

  2. I think this solidifies what Ape was saying earlier about boxing a 13 episode show and calling it a season for everyone to buy. This is about the same price as other regular seasons at $35.99, and its only 13 episodes!?!?!

  3. Well, BSG Season 3 is around $59 SRP for 24 episodes, so this is comparable I think. The SRP for this is only $39.

  4. so then look for shortened seasons this year and boxed up in a set all for the full price? Lame!

  5. You can blame this on NBC if you want… but it was really on ABC. :)

  6. Man, first Mary Tyler Moore, and now this…I really need a secretary to proofread this stuff.

  7. Never heard of this show…you know when studios start releasing obscure shows to dvd they must be reaching for straws. And then, as the Cap’n pointed out - they are charging $36 for 13 episodes?

    1. How can they justify it, and 2. if it was bad enough to cancel part way through the first season, why spend the $ to put it on dvd?

I’ll never understand how television studios operate.

  8. @ Mike - at least The Mary Tyler Moore show had funny writing and good acting.

  9. That’s $10-20 less than FX shows (which are also 13 episodes). Plus that’s the MSRP, it’ll never be that on the shelves.
