Is it possible that a new Ghostbusters could be happening sooner than we think? Is it possible that all of the original Ghostbusters will be in this sequel? Well, this is all wild speculation at this point, but DreadCentral claims they have a very reliable source who says that a new Ghostbusters if very close to becoming a reality and that all four Ghostbusters - Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson - have agreed to return to the franchise.
It wasn’t that long ago that the very idea of all the Ghostbusters getting back together was a wild fantasy that we all knew would never happen. So, what’s changed? Well, for starters they all just got back into character for a Ghostbusters game. But the biggest piece of the puzzle is that the magic man himself, Judd Apatow, is apparently involved in the project.
Of course, it’s not enough to just get the old crew back together with a hit writer/producer who’s on a roll and see what happens. No, the story is that they want this film to be a sort of transition film where the old crew turns over the reigns to a new batch of Ghostbusters - Apatow’s crew (i.e. Seth Rogan, Steve Carell and the crew from 40 Year Old Virgin).
I’m not sure how I feel about this. I would love to see the old crew back together and fighting ghosts. I think those guys had (have) a lot of talent and could probably do something really funny, especially when teamed up with Judd Apatow. I’m not sure about them turning it over to a new batch of guys, though. It seems like that might make for an uncomfortable film to watch. I think Steve Carell and the other guys are funny, but it would be hard to see them taking over the business. Of course, I think I’d rather see this then see the new guys try to do a “reboot” which is what Hollywood would normally try to do.
All of this depends, of course, on a budget and probably a script and a ton of other concerns. I can’t imagine that there isn’t a studio that wouldn’t kill to have the rights to make this movie, though.
What do you guys think? Would you go see a new Ghostbusters film where the old crew turn over the reigns to the new guys?

Awesome…and I don't know why I think so, but awesome. Seeing the whole Ghostbusters cast back together is just fun…and in Apatow's hands, it might be genius. They are all older now, slower, etc…
It could be the movie Indiana Jones and the Alien Abduction might have been in better hands.
As far as handing them off to a new cast…seriously, Steve Carell and Seth Rogan are awesome, so I don't care
That's an idea nearly as bad as the Muppet babies and the young Flintstones. New generation? Ok, whatever, but there's no need to embarrass the old guys, or have them embarrass themselves.
I'm excited about this prospect. A few years ago when people like Ben Stiller and such were popular, they had talked about creating a new “generation” of ghostbusters with whoever the top young comics were at the time. I still think it's a good idea but of course the young comics are different this time around.
I'd go see it. Having the original cast back would be AWESOME!!! So that's worth it even if the other guys aren't as good.
I miss the cartoon.
Man, I used to totally watch that
There was a cartoon?
Yep. Ran for several years with head writer J. Michael Straczynski. A pretty decent cartoon, though I haven't seen it in 15 years or so. Not sure how it would hold up.
You make me so sad sometimes…
