Harvey Dent and Catwoman in the next Batman?

This post contains some spoilers from The Dark Knight, so don’t read on if you haven’t seen it.

And honestly, if you haven’t seen it yet, you probably don’t care about spoilers anyways.

The end of TDK left us hanging in a way, at least concerning Batman and his future. Because from what we saw, Harvey Dent died and it that was that.

But there are a bunch of people out there (including myself) who believe in Harvey Dent. And that he’s still alive. Just recently, Aaron Eckhart, who plays Dent in the movie, had this to say:

To work with Christian (Bale) all over again, and the cast, would be phenomenal. I think this movie is a movie of a lifetime.

Interesting that he talks about it like it’s an option? At least, you can look at it that way. Maybe he was just eluding to working with these people again on another film.

Truly, you don’t know what he means with that comment, but to me I think he’d love to do another Batman movie. And we’d love for him to be in it. That was too quick an appearance for Two-Face.

Now, how about another villain?

I went to see the movie with three other guys, a couple of them being pretty die-hard comic book fans. Yet no one mentioned this little tidbit I heard today and I was astounded.

Was I the only one who missed it, and it was so obvious that no one felt the need to mention it?

Early in the movie, Batman gets attacked by dogs and then goes to Lucius Fox to ask for a better suit that is more mobile.

When he finally gets the new Batman costume and finds out it’s vulnerable to bullets and knives, he asks if it will handle dogs.

Lucius says something like, “No, but it will hold off cats.

I thought it was a funny line and my pea-sized brain just didn’t make the connection.

What is meaningful? Was that line intentionally dropping hints about the next movie? I actually found the attacking dogs a weird part of the story, so could that have all been done to tell us that Catwoman is coming soon?

At the end of Batman Begins, they did drop the Joker card tidbit so we’d be ready for that villain, but is this the same thing?

What do you guys think? Reading into it too much? Or did you all hear it and know what it meant and I’m the only one who was in the dark for about six days?

And what about Two-Face? Will he return?

  1. Over analyzation in order to populate other speculating blogs around the world. Dent is dead Jim, next villian would be the Riddler. noone is interested in Catwoman, especially after the flop it had in hollywood. She isnt anything interesting in the stories either..

It meant the armor is not as strong if it is separated and allows for more movements and flexibility by Batman…

  2. I did catch the joke, but I too put it down as more of a joke than a sign of things to come. I've heard over and over and over how no one is interested in doing Catwoman and I'm hoping they really aren't. I just think that would be beneath them at this point - like they were following in Burton's footsteps or something.

I love Aaron Eckhart and I thought he did a fantastic job as Harvey Dent, but I'm not interested in that character coming back for the next film.

Nor the Riddler - he's like a poor man's Joker.

Surely there are some decent villains out there?

  3. “…no one is interested in doing Catwoman”… that's what he said.

  4. Nice!

  5. LOL

  6. LOL… J has made me laughed twice today, everyone else is slacking….

  7. Ok so I saw it last night, got the cat woman reference. Sue me for seeing it late. I don't want to see Dent return nor the cat woman, i think the Joker will return in the 4th installment if at all. Maybe black mask, killer croc or a reinvisioned bane.

  8. I didn't realize there was such hatred for Catwoman…

    Interesting.

  9. i went and saw the dark knight and at the end when harvey died i thought i saw his bad eye move and for the villans two face and the riddler.

  10. i was looking at some of the villans from the batman comics and the only other suitable bad guy would probly be mr. freeze

  11. My son and I saw Dark Knight the other day and he is convinced Dent will return. Great flick although I liked Iron Man better.

  12. [...] Mike brought up some interesting rumors concerning who the villain in the next Batman film could be.  The rumors seem to suggest that [...]

  13. Well, I'm pretty sure Harvey Dent as Two-Face will return for the next one as well as see a Riddler show up. The reason I believe Two-Face survived is based on some foreshadowing earlier in the movie. Batman has Boss Maronie dangling over a fire escape exit and Maronie says “A fall from this height won't kill a man.” Now if you pay attention, Harvey and Batman fell from exactly the same height in the end. The only reason Batman got right back up is because of his armor. AND they were talking about him like he wasn't dead but rather trying to hide what “he'd become.” But that's just my two cents. Riddler elsewise would be a logical choice given Nolan has specifically mentioned him in past interviews.

  14. Didn't Batman land on top of Harvey?

  15. It was implied he did…

  16. From what I saw he landed beside him and not on top of him. I paid close attention. I've already seen the movie like three times.

  17. I agree with that.

  19. The guy who was about to say who Batman was on TV. Remember him? The little guy working for Bruce Wayne, whom Wayne saved by crashing his Lamborghini? Well, his name was Mr. Reese (Mysteries)… Yes. The Riddler.

  20. Just because it flopped before, doesn't mean that it has to flop again !
I reckon Harvey Dent's character could easily come back. All he would have to do is get a whole lot angrier. What you saw of him (when he became evil) was suddenly after he was good. Give him time to get his evilness together. I'm sure he can reach insanity.

You could have a love triangle going on again as well.
Catwoman loves batman, 2 Face loves Catwoman, batman's not sure….
Catwoman thinks she loves 2 Face until she sees the burnt part of his face (which he has been covering up most of the movie - with some shinny metal plate with an eye-hole would look cool)

Seeing that burnt part of his face for too long just makes you laugh too much…

Why am I writing all this….. I gotta get a life.

  21. Sorry… By flopped I meant “Catwoman”

  22. Oh… What the hell am I on about - 2 Face flopped with Tommy Lee's performance too huh..??

  23. yeah i was thinking that too but that actor hardly seems like he'd be a good villain

  24. I definately think Two Face (Eckhart) will return for numba 3, and as for another villain? Theres been some speculation about either Riddler, Catwoman or even Penguin…. hmm. I think they could do a catwoman for sure! I love SK, and Nolan could make it perfect, dontcha think? And hey, what do u think of Johnny Depp playinf the Riddler? Awesome ryt?

  25. [...] in July I posted an article speculating on whether Harvey Dent would return or not, because there was a pretty distinct number [...]
